Alex’s POV

I was waiting outside for around 20 minutes. I might have been calm from outside but I was very nervous from inside. I didn’t want to leave Ryan alone inside. But I knew I had to. This would determine whether Ryan will come with me or not. I was pulled out of my thoughts when my phone rang. Amber. I picked up the call. “Hey babe.” I greeted. “Hey girl. How’s Ryan now? Dom told us about you adopting him is it true?” She asked one after the other. “Yup I’m adopting him and he is doing well. Right now his social worker is in there asking him questions. I hope they let me have him.” I expressed. “Don’t worry Alex I’m sure they’ll let you adopt him and you are anyways gonna turn 18 in two months.” I heard the school bell ring , “Listen I’ll have to gon now but we are coming after school to visit you. Okay bye girl take care.” Amber said. “Bbye.”

I sat outside for a few more minutes before Miss Rose came out. I stood up amd faced her. “Well Ryan trusts you very much. I talked with him about the orphanage but he was hesitant to go back there. I asked him how he felt about you. And the response was positive. He was very nervous to see you walk out leaving him alone.” I smiled at that. “You have a good financial position and have a stable job. You have a nice home and can provide basic necessities to Ryan. So I have decided to let him adopt you.” I looked at her with wide eye not believing what I just heard. “But there will be frequent visit from me and few surprise visits as well. I have already bought the papers for the adoption for you to sign.” Miss Rose smiled. I hugged her tightly and whispered a thank you. “Does Ryan know?” I asked. She shook her head.

“Can I talk to him first?” I asked. She nodded. I smiled and entered the room. Ryan looked at me and sighed when he saw it was me. “Hey buddy, I have to talk to you about something.” I sat beside him on the bed facing him. He looked at me curiously. “Remember when I told you you hopefully won’t go to the orphanage?” He nodded. “That’s because I asked Miss Rose if I could adopt you and she has said yes and brought the papers. Before signing the papers I want to know that you want to live with me. If you don’t I want you to tell me now.” I looked at him hoping he would say yes to live with me. He looked at me shocked. “Yo-You want to adopt me?” I looked at him and nodded. “I want to but if you don’t want me to its-“ I was cut off when Ryan suddenly hugged me.

“No I want to be with you. I wanted to ask you to adopt me but I couldn’t I didn’t wanted to be a bother.” I pulled back and cupped his face. “You could never be a bother. Now that I’m gonna be your elder sister you can tell me anything without hesitating.” He smiled a big smile. I kissed his forehead and told him that I’ll be back after completing the adoption formalities. I went out and took the papers and pen and signed after reading the document that Miss Rose gave. After signing the last document the adoption was completed. Ryan was under my protection.

I went back in and saw Ryan looking out of the window with a nervous look. When he heard the door he looked at me. I smiled at him and sat beside him. “Are you okay?” I asked when he was looking at me anxiously. “What about your parents Alex? Are they okay with me living with you all?” Ryan asked timidly. I smiled at his question. “I live alone love. I don’t have parents.” I simply stated shrugging my shoulders. Ryan looked at me and asked curiously “Where are they?” “Don’t know.” Ryan nodded.

“Are you hungry? Amber and the guys are coming over later so they can bring some food since hospital food is not really edible.” Ryan looked at me was going to shake his head when his stomach growled. I chuckled lightly and teased “looks like someone is hungry. How does McDonald sound?” Ryan looked at me confused. “What’s that?” I looked at him and gasped dramatically. “You have never are it before?” Ryan shook his head and giggled at my antics. The sound warmed my heart. “Baby you are so eating it. I’m texting Amber and telling her to bring it.” I quickly texted Amber to bring a chicken burger and a cheese burger with 12 pieces of chicken nuggets and lots and lots of fries. After that I took out my laptop which Noah and Amber had dropped off. “Come on let’s watch some movies while we wait for them.”

I sat beside Ryan being careful with his wounds. Ryan immediately cuddled with me laying his head on my chest while wrapped my arm around him. We watched Finding Nemo while we waited for my friends to come.

Half way through the movie, the door burst open and in came Noah with his arms spread. Ryan jumped a little but calmed down when he saw who it was. I glared the Noah. “I come bearing McDonald.” There where food package in both his hands. Ryan giggled quietly. I smiled looking at him. Dom came in and smacked Noah on the head. Noah stumbled forward a little and glared at Dom. Dom only smirked and walked towards me. “Hey baby girl. Hey Champ.” I felt butterflies in my stomach at the nickname. “Hey.” Ryan said shyly. “You remember them right? That Dominic and that idiot is Noah and the girl Amber.” At the mention of her she entered. “Hey I missed you so much. Dom was grumpy all day today because you weren’t there and Noah kept provoking him.” Amber said dramatically. I shook my head her.

“Now let me meet my brother.” Amber said coming towards the bed. Ryan looked at her confused. “Who is your brother?” He asked looking around the room. I smiled at his innocence. “You are dummy. You are Alex’s brother therefore you are mine as well. Welcome to the family kid.” Ryan looked at Amber with shock and I saw tears form in his eyes. Amber looked at him with worried. “What happened baby? Did I said anything wrong?” She asked quickly. Ryan shook his head. “I had always wanted a family.” He replied softly. Awww. “Don’t worry kid we are now a family. I and Noah are your big brothers and Alex and Amber your big sisters.” Dom said from beside me. I saw Ryan nodded enthusiastic. “Now everyone let’s eat these burgers because I’m starving.” Noah exclaimed clapping his hands like a dive year old.

Soon we all started to eat and talk and joke around. I was happy to see Ryan enjoying and laughing whenever Noah cracked a joke or Dom and Noah fight. It was a warm feeling.
