After opening Starr Rink with a couple of victories, the Colgate Raiders head to East Lansing,Michigan to play the defending national champions, the Michigan State Spartans in the first weekend series of the season for the Raiders. With 11:25 left in the first period, Matt Schepke scored to make it 1-0 Michigan State. With 5:02 left in the first period, Dustin Gazley scored to make it 2-0 Sparty. With 41 seconds left in the first period, Dustin Gazley scored to make it 3-0 Spartans. Mark Dekanich and Jeff Lerg matched zeros for the remainder of the period so Michigan State leads 3-0 heading to the second period. With 18:18 left in the second period, Matt Schepke scored to make it 4-0 Michigan State. Colgate coach Don Vaughan pulled Mark Dekanich out of the net and so, Justin Kowalkoski filled in for the remainder of the game. With 17:31 left in the second period, Nick Sucharski scored to make it 5-0 Spartans. With 5:58 left in the second period, Tyler Burton scored his second goal of the season to make it 5-1 MSU. Kowalkoski and Lerg matched zeros for the remainder of the period so Michigan State leads 5-1 heading to period number three. With 16 minutes left in the third period, Justin Abdelkader scored to make it 6-1 Michigan State. With 11:36 left in the third period, Brian Day scored his fourth goal of the season to make it 6-2 Sparty. With 5:39 left in the third period, Jason Williams scored his second goal of the season, on the power play to make it 6-3 Michigan State. Jeff Lerg finished off the Raiders and Michigan State wins 6-3. Colgate dropped to 2-1-0 on the season.
