On January 15, 2008, it was announced that not one, not two, but three Colgate men's hockey players were nominated for the Hobey Baker Award, college hockey's coveted prize for the most outstanding player. Tyler Burton, Mark Dekanich and Jesse Winchester were all nominated for the Hobey Baker Award and it not surprise as to why because these players have been playing at a high level all season long and is the reason Colgate is challenging every team they play and they hope to bring the Hobey Baker Award back to Hamilton. These three men have done remarkable things on and off the ice and hopefully one of them will bring home the Hobey!
This Colgate hockey team has done decent work in competition this season and they're very close to taking over ECAC Hockey with a few wins and a little help from their ECAC Hockey brothers. The question Colgate fans are asking is, can Colgate get a chance to play for a championship? We will find out together as this season continues to wind down. Colgate would definitely not be the same team without these three men playing at their high level on the ice. I hope you've enjoyed this part of the story and of course, go Raiders!
As I just said, I hope you enjoy the rest of the story as the quest for an elusive title continues into the winter portion of the 2007-08 season. Looking back on Colgate hockey of years past makes me miss the olden days of a rink named Starr. Starr Rink was always packed with passionate fans and fans of the opposition was always outnumbered in the grand scheme of things in that amazing hockey rink. But enough of my tangent, I'll shut up and continue the story on Friday night with a special game against an old friend of sorts! Go Raiders!!
