**Lukas’ P.O.V.**

My eyes fluttered open slowly at the sound of a door closing. John nodded at me and then walked further into the apartment. I let out a quiet yawn and noticed that Jona was still sleeping in my arms, gripping tightly onto my shirt. I figured that I should wake him up so he would still be able to sleep tonight so I gently shook his shoulder.

Jona mumbled a few incoherent words, let out a yawn, and then his eyes opened. “How long was I asleep?”

“A few hours,” I answered as we both sat up. Then John came into the room wearing more casual clothing.

“What do you two want for dinner?” he asked us.

After dinner, when Jona was getting washed up for bed, John and I were still sitting at the kitchen table.

“So, mom called you?” I asked, already knowing what this conversation would be about. Really though, I wondered how much they really talked to each other. They seemed pretty familiar with each other.

He nodded, “She told me she talked to you and that she’s doing alright. I didn’t see Bill at work today though, so who knows how he’s reacting.”

I merely shrugged in response, “It’s never possible to know what his reactions are.”

John sighed, “True. But besides that, how are you feeling?”

“Tired.”

John nodded, “Make sure you put on the medicine before you go to sleep. Are you going to need help?”

“Probably,” I grumbled, looking towards the side.

John chuckled and stood up, “It’s nothing to be ashamed about,” and then retreated out of the kitchen before the full effect of my death stare could reach him.

Sighing, I suddenly remembered my friends and that they would probably be worried. The phone was thankfully on the kitchen table so I grabbed it and began dialing Mark’s cell number.

“Hello?” He answered cautiously.

“Hey jerk.”

“Lukas! You asshole, where are you?” he shot back. In the background I heard the sound of someone falling and then Dakota’s voice saying “You found Lukas?!”

“Erm. It’s not that important.”

I heard Mark snort in response, “Well at least you’re not dead.” Then there was the sound of some shuffling and a few curses and then Dakota was on the phone.

“Hey Lukas! It’s your best friend Dakota!”

“You’re a moron. You know that right?” Without thinking I sat back in my chair and wound up cringing when my sensitive back hit the back of the chair. I grumbled a few curses but Mark and Dakota didn’t notice because they were arguing.

“If you wanted to talk to him you could have put the phone on speaker; not jump me for it!” Mark was saying.

“W-Well excuse me for having a one track mind,” Dakota shot back.

“And not knowing how to work a phone,” Mark muttered.

“Shut up!”

I chuckled at their antics and then Jona came into the kitchen, wearing his pj’s and his hair wet and tangled. I let out a sigh but reminded myself that he was eight.

“Okay guys. This was fun and all but I have to go.”

“Don’t die! –Ow!” Dakota said; Mark probably punched him.
