“Scarlet, what is the answer to the equation?” My math teacher, Mr. Colin, asked during class.
“Twenty-four?” I offered.
“Very good,” he said and went back to lecturing the class on math stuff I could care less about.
It was the last class of the day but that stupid dream I had kept popping up. Dammit… that was forever ago. Why? I shook my head, stop thinking about it. But that boy, why did he seem so familiar, and why couldn’t I remember what happened after…
I tried to remember anything I could about the boy. Come on Scarlet, think. I rubbed my temples with my fingers, completely ignoring what was going on around me. The boy was pretty tall, long dark hair…
“Okay class, do number five for homework,” Mr. Colin said as the bell rang. But I didn’t even notice I was so deep in thought; everyone started walking towards the door.
“Lukas!” I said suddenly remembering, hoping my voice wasn’t too loud.
“Yeah?” I looked up and found Lukas had stopped mid stride, binder in his hand, and was looking at me. Ha ha, right, we have the same math class.
“Uh…Sorry, I just remembered that I have to call my cousin Lukas,” I lied, getting up and grabbing my stuff.
He chuckled and pushed the hair out of his eyes slightly, “Alright then, later.” He nodded and walked out of the room, meeting up with his friends.
On the outside I probably looked pretty calm, but on the inside I was freaking out. Holy shit! That was him? Is that what he meant when he asked if I remembered? Does that mean he remembers? I don’t even remember all of it. Thanks repressed memories…
I was freaking out so much I hadn’t even realized that I passed Trinity in the hall way. There was a sudden grab on my arm, I swung around, eyes wide, to face her.
“Whoa, Scarlet, calm down it’s just me,” she said, raising an eyebrow at me.
I rubbed my eyes, “Sorry, I was zoning.” Neither she nor Alice knows about it.
We began walking to our lockers and she nodded, “You do that a lot.”
I chuckled half heartedly, “I know.”
She raised her eyebrow again, “Something wrong?”
I don’t like lying to my friends, but this was something not to be talked about, “I’m just tired.”
“Alright,” she said, like she didn’t believe me.
I was going crazy. He was seriously there when that happened. What in the world happened after? Gah! Why can’t I remember? I mean, I guess I could always ask him…but for some reason that didn’t seem like a good idea. Maybe it was a good thing I don’t remember? Holy crap I’m confusing myself. Just stop thinking about it Scarlet, stop thinking about it.
“Scarlet!”
Shook my head and realized Trinity and Alice were looking at me, both with raised eyebrows.
“Hi Alice, when’d you get here?” I asked, also realizing we were at my locker, so I began to open it.
Instead Alice ignored me and turned to Trinity, “What is wrong with her?”
“I don’t know, I found her like this after the bell rang,” she replied.
“Scarlet, what’s wrong?” Alice asked, turning back to me.
I stuffed a few books in my bag and slammed my locker shut, “Nothing.”
Alice crossed her arms and gave me a look that read “Bullshit”.
“Aren’t you guys going to miss your ride?”
Trinity and Alice exchanged a look. “I guess you’ll tell us when you’re ready,” Trinity sighed. Now that just made me feel guilty. But nevertheless, they said goodbye and walked their way to the exit, and I was left with my own thoughts.
I leaned against the lockers, blasted my iPod, and banged the back of my head a few times. This is too much…
