THEY LEFT THE CITY.

On the first day after the tragic end to the CDC and Jenner and Jacqui's lives, Rick took them to the nursing home.

They found nothing but corpses of the old people and a couple dead chihuahuas.

They slept in their cars the first couple nights before they find shelter in a Walmart. It was convenient, albeit not stocked.

Then they decided to leave the city and travel the one hundred and twenty-five miles to Fort Benning.

They abandon Shane's jeep, Daryl's pickup truck, and the church van to save gas.

Dale, Shane, Andrea, Glenn, and T-Dog all pile into the RV. The Grimes and Peletier family ride in Carol's Cherokee. Daryl and Rhea leads the caravan on Daryl's motorcycle.

Rhea was gripping the fabric of her father's vest as they were leading the way.

The plan was to make for the freeway because it was quickest, but it would also be the most
dangerous too.

Thousands of people had used those roads trying to escape when this had all started and now the roads would be overrun. The cars would block up the roads and then walkers would ambush them.

The wind whipped through Rhea's hair and she would naturally be enjoying this, but she hasn't enjoyed anything since the outbreak happened.

There was nothing to enjoy anymore. Rhea suddenly felt her father slow down and she heard him take in a deep breath. Looking over his shoulder, her eyes widened and what she saw took her breath away.

The road was destroyed. Cars were crashed at every angle, and they took up almost every inch of the road.

The pileup stretched for miles and even then, there will still some lingering cars father away. There could be walkers anywhere in that mess of cars. It was unbelievable.

Daryl pushed on and they were moving forward again but much slower this time. It was very quiet as they started into the maze of cars.

Rhea looked behind her to see the giant RV slowly following behind them. She couldn't help her curiosity, so she began to look around at all the wrecked cars.

There was nearly a dead body in each of them, but she couldn't tell if they were truly dead through which made her extremely nervous.

They were nearly halfway through the maze by now but then a small explosion sounded behind them.

Jumping in alarm, Rhea turned around to see the front of the RV smoking and it came to a halt.

The RV was breaking down.

Climbing off the motorcycle, Rhea followed her father towards the rest of the group that had gathered around the hood of the RV.

Dale sighed in frustration and gritted his teeth together "I said it. Didn't I say it? Thousand times.
Dead in the water."
