After catching up with Maggie, Athena and Leo sent their daughter back to Alexandria with Jisung and Angel. The couple was talking with Daryl and Carol when Maggie walked towards them with two men.
"Carol, Daryl, Athena, Leo... Elijah and Cole. Hershel and I were living with their people until recently. We lost the village." Maggie explained to them.
"And now we need to live with you." Elijah clarified to them.
"I thought I'd take them to Hilltop." Maggie told them, as she looked in between Athena and Leo.
Athena and Leo shared a look, before they looked back at Maggie. "Maggie about that..." She trailed off slightly.
Maggie gave her a questioning look, taken aback by their sudden reaction, "What is it?"
"Hilltop... it was destroyed. By a fire." Leo explained, shaking his head "The whisperers, to be exact."
Maggie dropped her gaze, "Take me there."

The group had led Maggie towards Hilltop, with Dog leading them. The ruins of Hilltop revealed as they moved through the thick shrubbery. Athena and Leo could barely watch the scene in front of them. They failed her. Maggie trusted the couple with Hilltop and they failed her, because they were too busy staying in Alexandria to look after Lydia.
Carol peered at the Rhee woman with regret in her eyes "Maggie. Negan was with the Whisperers. That night. I wanted you to hear it from me, because..."
"It was you?" Maggie suddenly asked, frowning "You let him out?"
"Alpha needed to die and Negan was our best chance." She tried to justify "We were gonna lose everything. Negan's the reason we didn't."
Athena and Leo shared a look, before they looked back at the two women. They knew that Carol telling Maggie something like this would probably leave her slightly unhinged. It seemed almost impossible to make her change her mind about Negan and with good reason. He was the one who killed Glenn and terrorized the communities.
Elijah's voice interrupted their thoughts "So what now? Everyone was supposed to go to... what was it?"
"Alexandria." Daryl answered for him.
"So, we all go to Alexandria and we live next door to the guy who torched this place? Same guy who killed her husband. Is that right?" he inquired, his voice laced with some annoyance.
Daryl didn't know how to answer them with another option, since there really wasn't another one "We're still figuring things out."
"Thanks for telling me." Maggie said to Carol, she gave her one curt nod, as Maggie walked past briskly "I need to get to Hershel and the others."
Upon her coming out of earshot, Daryl decided to turn to Carol, "You didn't have to do that."
"I did." Carol murmured, glancing to where Maggie had disappeared, "I owe her that much."
