Allegra had gotten all of three hours of sleep before she was woken by a violent flapping of wings in her face.
The owl that was waking her up carried no note, but the message was clear enough. She shot up from bed with a sense of icy shock. Around her, Gryffindor tower was in chaos.
Loud, anxious chatter bubbled up from the common room as Allegra changed into a fresh set of clothes.
She ran down the stairs, hastily swinging her robes around her shoulders. It seemed every Gryffindor was crammed into the common room: the Prefects had grouped the years together, keeping the youngest in the center of the room.
"Natty!" Allegra said, rushing over to her friend. She was standing in a corner with Garreth Weasley and Cressida Blume. Natsai clasped their hands together.
"Allegra, what is going on?" Natsai asked worriedly. "They say there are goblins outside Hogwarts' walls!"
"Is it Ranrok?" Cressida said, voice shaky.
"There's no way they'll get in, right?" Garreth added. "The wards around the school are too strong."
Allegra gave Natty's hands a squeeze. "There's something I have to do," she said solemnly. "I'll tell you all everything after this, I promise."
As she pulled away, Natty's eyes went wide. "Tell me you are not leaving," she demanded. Allegra gave her a sheepish smile and pulled away. "Allegra!"
"Stay safe!" she shouted, shoving past furious Prefects and out of the common room.
Slytherin dungeon felt it first.
There was a resounding boom as something large and heavy bounced against Hogwarts' wards. Ominis bolted awake and fumbled for his wand. Something else slammed into the wards, bringing with it a loud boom, a hiss of magic, and a furious bubbling of water. Screams rang out from the common room.
"Ominis!" Sebastian's voice. "Get up!' He heard the other boy open his trunk, felt him shove a change of clothes into his arms.
"It's happening," Ominis said numbly, pulling a fresh jumper over his head. "What are they throwing at us?"
