After the sun set, Ominis walked Allegra to Gryffindor Tower, where he received another stolen kiss before he left. It had been a good day. He'd done well on his O.W.L.S., Sirona had treated them to free Butterbeers and pumpkin pasties, and he'd spent the day walking around the Scottish Highlands with his girl.
But Ominis knew better than anyone how quickly it could go wrong. When he entered his dorm, he could hear the rapid footfalls of Sebastian's pacing.
"Ominis," Sebastian breathed. "There you are."
"What's wrong?" Ominis asked, concern quickly growing in his chest.
"I've got a letter," Sebastian said quietly. "From Anne. I couldn't...I wanted to wait for you." He felt paper being shoved into his hands. "Please, Ominis. I don't have it in me."
Ominis found his bed and sat. Sebastian settled in beside him as he gently tore open the envelope. The paper it was written on felt strange. It was far smaller and stiffer than the parchment they were used to. It smelled clean, like antiseptic and roses. With a Legere Tactus, Ominis began to read.
"Sebastian,
I am writing to you from a Muggle sanatorium. I have been staying here for the past few months, waiting for my turn in Dr. Cunningham's program.
I know your O.W.L.S. will be over by now. Come see me.
The address and an image of the sanatorium are disclosed below.
Anne."
Silence settled over the two boys. Ominis thumbed over the unfamiliar address written on the bottom of the paper. Beside him, Sebastian was frozen stiff.
Ominis reached for his arm. "Are you alright?" he asked.
"We've got to go," Sebastian said quietly. "She sent for me, Ominis."
"Which will be difficult, seeing as how we don't know anything about Muggle London." Ominis refolded the letter and slipped it back into its envelope, handing it to Sebastian. He didn't say what he was thinking: there was no warmth in Anne's words. Her letter had only filled Ominis with a sense of dread.
Sebastian was on his feet. "So who does?"
"Slow down," Ominis warned. "Look, Sebastian. Let's sleep on it."
"But we could go right now," Sebastian said breathlessly.
"With what Muggle money?" Ominis reminded. "And what direction? We can't very well Apparate into Muggle London and Imperio someone to take us there—that's a joke, Sebastian, don't you even think about it."
"Alright," Sebastian grumbled. "Fine."
He heard Sebastian throw himself into his bed, rolling over with a sigh. Ominis let out a breath he didn't realize he'd been holding: Sebastian listened to him this time.
After an uneasy sleep, Sebastian and Ominis found Arthur Plummly in the Beasts garden. They'd cut off the address and the strange, unmoving photo, handing it to the half-blood Hufflepuff.
Arthur hummed as he squinted at the pieces of paper in his hands. After a moment, he handed them back to Sebastian.
"I know where that is," Arthur said with a sniff. His free hand was petting a jumping Puffskein. "That's a really fancy neighborhood. What are you planning to do there?"
"Never mind what we're planning to do," Sebastian said, a little sharper than he'd meant. "Where is it? How do we get there?"
As he spoke, the Puffskein opened its mouth and bit onto Arthur's hand. Nonchalantly, the Hufflepuff loosened its jaws and put it back down in its pen. "Well, I suppose you could get to Muggle London from Diagon Alley, then hire a carriage and ask to go to Mayfair. I don't know where that house is, though. You'd have to figure that out yourselves—stop that, Poofer," he reprimanded, shaking his hand free from another Puffskein bite.
