Ominis froze.

Feeling his spine stiffen, he turned, feeling the familiar looming presence of his older brother in the room.

"Marvolo," he drawled, a sing-song imitation of his brother's last words. "What in Merlin's name are you doing here?"

Footsteps rang out, bringing with them a strong scent of rain and Firewhiskey.

"They needed some extra security on the field," Marvolo explained, tapping his wand against each bed frame he passed. "I thought I would volunteer. Get a chance to watch the exciting game at my old school. See my baby brother..." He felt Marvolo lean around him. "...and his friend. Hello, Sebastian, was it?"

"Hello, Marvolo," Sebastian greeted.

"Shame about last night," Marvolo sighed. "You were so close to winning, too."

Ominis scowled. "I'll thank you not to disturb my patients, please, " he muttered. "I'm going to have to ask you to leave. These people all need their rest."

"Your patients?" Marvolo scoffed. "So is that what you've been doing, Ominis? Playing Healer?"

"I'm not playing," Ominis said coolly. He turned to leave, trying to push past his brother, but Marvolo's cold hand closed firmly around his wrist.

"What would Mother and Father think?" Marvolo snarled. "Healing. That's what you want to do with your life, is it? Play nursemaid to children?"

Ominis wrenched his arm free. "I don't care what Mother and Father think, Marvolo." He scoffed, taking a step away from him. "And I hardly care about your opinion, either."

"Excuse me!" Nurse Blainey's furious voice and speedy footsteps rang out in the room. "Now, thank you for your help, but you're making a scene and you need to leave. These children are in recovery after those—those Ministry-sanctioned things, and they need their peace." Her hands rested protectively around Ominis' shoulders.

Marvolo snickered. "Oh, of course, Nurse Blainey. My sincerest apologies," he said. "Could you point me to the Fat Lady's portrait, Matron? There's someone I might have an interest in visiting."

A spark of rage drove Ominis to raise his wand, barely suppressed by Nurse Blainey's touch on his wrist. On the other side of the room, he heard Sebastian jump to his feet. There was no way he was going to let his brother come anywhere near Gryffindor Tower. He could remember his slurred, drunken words, remember the slimy way he'd called Allegra pretty. The very thought of it now sent his blood boiling.

"Oh, touchy subject?" Marvolo let out a low, short laugh. Marvolo's voice turned sweet. "See you around, Ominis."

Ominis' heart was still thumping wildly in his chest. He waited, tensed, for his heavy footsteps to fade away. Sebastian scoffed and collapsed back into his bed.

"Your brother's a real git," Sebastian muttered.

Ominis huffed. "Tell me something I don't know."

"That's alright, Sebastian."

"Yes, good try."

"You did well either way. Wasn't your fault."

Sebastian's sleep-deprived Saturday morning was met with murmurs of consolation and gentle claps on the back. Crawling to breakfast with Ominis, Sebastian suddenly found himself staring at his feet, trying to avoid the pitying expressions of the Hogwarts students around him. He piled an excess of breakfast rolls, eggs, and sausages onto his plate. Last night's events had left him ravenous.
