A/N: I'm running out of chapter names 😐
You all reentered the house as the blimp disappeared further into the city, the light atmosphere gone and replaced with something a little more solemn.
"We should get ready." An sighs, rubbing Kuina's arms.
You could tell it was hard for the both of them, of course it was. It was no longer the worry of surviving in a game but ensuring those that you love survived too. You had experienced that before with Chishiya, albeit you hadn't been in many games together but the ones you had are by far the ones you found to be the hardest.
Facing death was terrifying but facing death for yourself and those you love?
It was crippling, a torturous experience that no one should ever go through.
"I'll go and shower, get all this off." She gestures to her face, leaving the room quietly without looking at you.
An waits until the water starts to talk to you. "She feels bad for leaving you here alone."
"I'll be fine." You reassure her, that wasn't important right now. Yes, you would worry but realistically they were the ones about to be in a dire situation. "How are you feeling about joining another game?"
She shakes her head, focusing her attention on cleaning up the makeup. "I don't think about it, I just do what I have to do and hope to make it out of the other side. I think logically so I know allowing myself to grow overly emotional is going to prevent me being able to be who I need to be to walk out of that game unscathed."
You marvelled at her strength. "And what about Kuina? Do you think she will be okay?"
"I think that I'll make sure she is okay." An doesn't sound mean but you can tell she's serious. "I'm very grateful for the sanctuary you have given us here."
"You're always welcome here, I hope you come back after the game ends." You smile sadly. "It will be too quiet without you both."
"We will be back." Even if you don't believe it you can tell from her tone that she does and that's a hope you won't take away from her.
"I know you will. I think you should go and check on her." You can tell from the way An looks back at the bathroom door that she wants to.
"Are you sure?" She worries. "You'll be okay to clean this up?"
You make a noise of affirmation. "I will, I'll pack a bag for you with everything you'll need."
"You're a godsend." She squeezes your shoulder before slipping past you, quickly disappearing into the room Kuina was preparing in.
You busied yourself with cleanup duty, wanting everything to be perfect for whenever they came back and had the chance to give each other makeovers once again. Your sister's necklace weighed around your neck as a heavy reminder of what it was like to lose family but in a way it was comforting, you were sure that she would be protecting you from wherever her soul may be.
You couldn't help but wonder what she would think about the strange bonds you'd formed with those you'd fought for life besides, knowing her she would applaud you for being able to find the best in even the worst of times. You felt warm inside at the thought she would be proud of you.
At least you hoped she would be.
Despite the lack of clocks you'd gotten good at guesstimating the time, even if the days did pass by differently here you were sure night was drawing in.
You silently packed an old rucksack you'd found, filling it with medical supplies and food, some extra clothing and a flick knife that Chishiya had stashed away in a draw. You'd given them all you could whilst ensuring there would be enough for everyone once they returned.
