It had only been twenty four hours since the beach was set ablaze after the final hearts game and the borderlands, for once, was buzzing with gossip.

You had overheard from some beach members that had followed you to your new temporary home in the middle of some back roads that the games had been paused as had visas in preparation for the next stage.

Everyone was as confused as you when they heard this news, it has been all that was talked about for hours now and you was glad the conversation was coming to an end as night drew over.

The parties of the beach had gone, no more alcohol, no more music. It had been fun, genuinely fun. You and the remaining survivors had made a deal, no more sadness. If any of you could die at any moment you didn't want to waste a second of it being sad about where you are.

You are all fighting for a life so whilst you're fighting you still have to live, otherwise it's pointless.

You felt the smile growing on your face as you looked around those who had come together with you, Kuina and Ann.

A few familiar faces and a few new ones.

"What are you so happy about?" Kuina asked a
similar smile across her face.

"I am happy. None of us knows what's coming and none of us can control it or change it but we have each other. Before the boderlands I was alone. I had no one and nothing. I may be risking my life every day for it but I have friends. I have hope. I have courage, power and strength and / will be damned to let anyone take these things away from me."

Kuina wraps her arms around you, pulling your into a hug.

"That was rather... sentimental." You laugh at Kuinas small comeback until you watch her eyes trail behind you.

Despite how easy it would be to turn your head and face what's behind you apart of you is terrified at what has Kuina so shocked. Your body stayed frozen as footsteps drew closer.

"What are you doing here?" Kuina spat, her voice filled with anger.

Your heart dropped at the mumbled voice behind you.

"My plan isn't complete. I have the cards yet there's more. Strange isn't it." His perfect voice hummed from behind you.

You wanted to turn, to face him. Despite your simmering anger at the man who abandoned you or at least tried to your heart still hurt and pined for him.

Kuina looks to you, her eyes filled with concern despite her anger.

You shake your head at her signalling you don't want to talk to him. She seems to understands and walks towards him, you glance back. Thankfully his eyes weren't facing you as Kuina was dragging him away.

You sighed trying to focus back on the group of friends that had surrounded you. Ann sat beside you whilst everyone else continued their conversations.

"What was that about?" She nods towards the
disappearing figures of both Kuina and Chishiya.

You huff dreading the explanation you're about to give. "Well me and Chishiya had a thing, or I had a thing with him..." her eyes widen and she signals for you to continue.

"Well basically he wanted to leave the beach and I was going to go with him  but he was going to leave without me the only thing that stopped him was the beams that set after the game started. I thought he cared about me, he acted like he did in his own strange way but maybe it was in my head. All I know is that I... began to love him. He warned me and I didn't listen.." You feel tears brimming but you hold them back, he doesn't deserve that.
