With wet eyes, I see his eyes again.

'I'm sorry...' he whispers again.

'I should never have started touching you or playing games with you...you deserve better than me, love...' his voice is soft.

Gentle fingertips still touch my neck.

'It's okay,' I finally respond.

'Don't be so naive, love...' he says and stands back up on his own two feet.

My hand stops him from leaving the moonlit balcony. Unexpected eyes look into mine again. Now I stand up as well.

'Please don't go again,' I whisper as my hand reaches around his warm neck.

'I won't let you get hurt by me again, love...' he says gently and takes my hands off his neck.

'I'm sorry...' he says again and kisses my hands.

Wind touches my body as he leaves me alone again.

-------------------

Happy birthday, bro...'' Lewis says to Lando at the breakfast table.

'Happy birthday from me too...' Maria said softly, sitting next to me as I stared absently into space.

"amalia... don't be rude..." Lewis says to me sternly.

'yes all the best, norris...' I say forcedly and absently as I continue to stare outside.

'Thanks guys...' his voice rang out.

''Maria and I have organized everything, we're throwing a party for you today'' Lewis informs Lando.

"What? That wasn't necessary...'' Lando tried to gloat.

"Bro, you've always been happy about parties, what's wrong?" Lewis asks him in surprise.

''Forgive me, I'm happy. I just didn't sleep well... who's all invited?" Lando asks him now.

Footsteps follow their path over to the living room.

"Are you okay?" Maria worries.

''Yes, I just have to go again. Will you come with me?'' I ask her, to at least give her some attention, as I've pretty much stood her up for the last few months.

---------------

Black high heels cover my feet. From my thighs up to my shoulders, my body is covered by a skin-tight dress, which is white. Curly hair partially touches my exposed shoulders. Completing the stairs down, voices and music came towards me. My eyes scan the room. I spot familiar faces immediately. I spot him too. His fine black shirt and matching black suit trousers. Warmth rises in me as his eyes pass over my body.

"Amalia..." Charles' voice rang out cheerfully.

Running over to a small group, I now greet Charles with a gentle hug.

'You're stealing the show as usual, sis...' Lewis says with a smile.

''Oh no...you look fantastic too, all of you...'' I decline the compliment sweetly.

'You're right, sweetie...' Maria says.

'Amalia... right?' a familiar voice sounds behind me.

My toned body turns. It's Lando's father.

''Yes, that's right. Nice of you to come,' I say kindly.

''Thank you for inviting me...'' he replies with a smile.

"Dad?" his voice sounds in the background.

Happy birthday, son...'' Lando's father says to him and hugs him gently.

"Thank you...but how do you know about here?" he asks him after his father hands him a present.

''The charming girl here invited me...'' his father replies, the three of us now standing a little apart from the others.

''I'm anything but charming, but I was happy to do it...'' I say with a smile.

''Thank you, Amalia...you are more than charming...'' Lando says with a smile.

For several seconds our eyes deepen into silence.

---------------

"Lando..." a loud but slurred voice rang out as the door was pulled open.

All eyes now turn to the drunk person. Lando and my eyes meet.

"Happy birthday. You don't deserve it from me...but I thought I could come over and meet your friends...cheers, this one's for you...'' slurs the person again, holding a whiskey bottle in his hand.

It's a mother. His fists clench.

"Aren't you going to thank me?" she slurs again.

'Get out!' Lando says angrily.

'As always, you're ungrateful...' she slurs.

'Take her out before I forget myself...' his angry voice rang out again.

Lando's father and I help the woman out. All I heard behind us was a loud bang

"Should I help you?" I asked Lando's father as he pushed his wife into the seat and buckled her in.

'No, everything's fine. You'd better look after Lando, he needs you. Even if he won't admit it...' he says gently.

'Thank you...' I say kindly.

'You're good for my son, Amalia...' he says.

Running inside, I see a hole in the wall.

'What happened?' I ask Maria, because I don't see Lando and Lewis in the room.

'Lando... he hit the wall,' Maria tells me.

'You'd better not go upstairs. Lewis is upstairs looking after him,' Maria adds as I look towards the stairs.

'What are you all looking at? The party's over...'' I say unkindly to the guests, who are exchanging looks of disbelief.

By midnight, everyone had disappeared.

Maria, Charles and I started to tidy up the living room and the kitchen. After a while, Lewis came downstairs too.

"And how is he?" Charles asked, because I couldn't tell.

'He's asleep now. Let's go to bed too. We can clean up the rest tomorrow,' says Lewis.

Together we walked up the stairs.

------------------

"Why don't you change?" asks Maria, snuggling up in bed.

'I have to check on him,' I say.

I waited until the time was right.

'Are you really sure?' she asks me.

'I can't sleep otherwise...' I say.

'Trust me and you go to sleep...' I add.

I quietly leave my room. And even more quietly, I knock on Lando's door.

"Yes?" he asks.

Quiet footsteps burst into his room. I'm still wearing the skin-tight white dress. I close the door again behind me.

'Amalia...' he says in a weak voice.

Broken eyes freeze my heart for a lightning moment.

"Are you okay?" I ask gently and walk over to his bed.

Slowly, I set my body down on the edge of his bed.

'Yes,' he says.

'Do you want to talk about it?' I ask anxiously.
