Part 14: to be there

An eternity passed without hearing anything from either of them. did it hurt? Of course, it did. My own brother turned against me and was no longer interested in me. Not even a news story in the last three weeks. Arian helped and supported me because I was weaker than ever when it came to my mental health. I enter Arian's apartment late in the afternoon after sitting at school all day. I give Arian a friendly hug.

"How was your day, sweetie?" he asks me kindly.

"It's okay, I'm just a little exhausted..." I answer.

"Do you need anything?" he asks sweetly.

I shook my head.

"Okay, I'll go to the gym and then we'll have a movie night, okay?" he asks with his sweet smile.

''deal..'' I say with a smile.

As silence surrounded me in his apartment, I reached for my cell phone. I was shocked when I saw how often Lando tried to reach me through messages and calls.

,,call me back''

Amalia please. It is important''

"Dammit, don't be so stubborn"

"It's about Lewis," he wrote last.

I immediately dialed Lando's number.

"Oh God, Amalia you're finally calling me back," came his voice, which I had missed.

''What happened?'' I ask anxiously.

"Lewis had an accident in his last race...just go to the hospital," he explained the situation to me.

''Oh my God...is he okay?'' I ask in shock.

"Yes, he's fine, I just think it would help him if you were here.." Lando convinced me.

I entered his hospital room shy and afraid. Lando sat on a chair next to Lewis' bed and lifts his head as I enter the room. But I notice that there is another person in the room. Lewis sees me too now. Bad wounds lightly cover his face and arms. Lewis stops talking to the person. The person turns around. I remain frozen in place.

"Amalia.." came the woman's voice.

Tears rolled down. The woman is my mother, who I thought was dying. My heart broke when I realized that Lewis had lied to me about our mother's situation. I run away in tears. I locked myself in a cubicle in the toilet of the public hospital. Fear and panic surrounded me. My body was shaking and uncontrollable tears found their way down my face.

"Open up..." came his voice.

"I-I'm okay.." I say, breathing heavily.

"I won't repeat myself again, dear," he says harshly and sternly.

Door opens

I was still sitting slumped on the floor. Lando came in, closed the door behind him and knelt in front of me. It was becoming increasingly difficult for me to breathe.

''Shh..'' he whispers and holds my hand.

"Just concentrate on me...on my voice." He whispers gently in my ear.

My eyes fixed on the ground, begging for air. His voice promised me safety. My breathing slowly got back into the right rhythm. Gentle fingers wiped away my tears. My eyes lifted.

"Is it okay, dear?" he asks quietly but politely.

''Yes...'' I say quietly and frailly.

"Was that because of you..?" he asks cautiously.

I gave a reserved nod of the head.

"Can I touch you?" he asks carefully again.

I fall forward into his arms. He gently and carefully strokes my hair while I hide my face in his chest.

"I'm sorry that I lied and that you had a fight with Lewis because of me.." he whispers gently in my ear.

Wet eyes meet his.

"Since when has Norris been apologizing?" I ask quietly.

"Since I hurt you..." he whispers and his fingers grasp my cheeks.

''Let me take you home...I mean your real home'' he says and picks me up.

Carried up by him, he lays me in my bed, which I had missed quite a bit. Covered by him, I lay comfortably in bed.

"Please don't go..." I caught his finger as he was about to leave my room.

Lando turns to me and pulls me onto his chest. We just lay there for minutes and enjoyed the silence. My head lifted and our eyes met. Lando puts his lips on mine, lost in each other. I reply immediately. Things are getting heated between us. But when Lando broke the kiss and pulled away, I was surprised.

''We won't go any further as long as this pain is in your eyes..'' he explained to himself.

"Get some sleep now...if anything happens, I'll be in my room." he says and gives me a kiss on the forehead.

My eyes follow him until he finally leaves the room.

Awakening from my little nap, I look around. I saw Lewis. I immediately sat upright.

"I missed seeing you sleep in this bed," Lewis says, sitting on the edge of my bed.

"You lied to me, lew..." I say quietly.

"I know and I'm sorry, Amalia. And I'm sorry that I couldn't protect you back then, what was done to you. I won't tell you what to do, even if you never want to see mom again. I understand that and I will never pressure you to do that again. I was too selfish and I'm incredibly sorry for that, sister," he explained to me his point of view.

I immediately hug him. Maybe it was naive to forgive him straight away, but at least he's the only one left in my family. My brother is the most valuable thing to me.

"Are you okay?" I ask my brother after the hug.

"I'm feeling better now, I just have a few scratches, I'm fine. But how are you? Lando didn't tell me anything..'' Lewis asked.

I was surprised because Lando always told Lewis everything, even everything about me.

''I had another panic attack..'' I said to him.

"I'm sorry for putting you in this situation," Lewis said, hugging me gently again.
