Evelyn and Brian sat in Eves ship, a City-made Hawk, which sat in landing just outside a restaurant, called the Dark Ages Deli. Both Eve and Brian were wearing hoodies with the Vanguard logo; Eves was a dark purple, while Brians was black. A Frame wearing an apron wandered out of the restaurant, a large bag in hand as it came over to the ship hatch, which lowered and permitted Nolan to float out and grab the bag in a transmat field. Once the ramp closed up the ships engines roared to life and began to fly upwards, through the fleet that levitated near-motionless over the city. Eve took the bag from Nolan inside the ship and opened it up, handing Brian one of the two sandwiches inside said bag. Just as Brian put the ship on auto-pilot from the pilots seat, Eve sat a moment in contemplation from the co-pilots seat.
Eve; "Hmph... Y'know what I'm thinking about?"
Brian lifted his head, looking her way with a mouthful of food.
Brian; "Mm?"
Eve unwrapped her sandwich as she spoke, head tilting up in rememberance.
Eve; "That day in the cave... That was more than a year ago by now."
Brian covered his mouth as he swallowed, eyes wandering as the memory filled his mind.
Brian; "It was, yeah? My word... Still hard for me to believe it sometimes. I always thought I'd be the last person anyone would trust."
Eve took a bite as she listened to him, a smile on her face, leaning over and resting her head on his shoulder as the ship took off.
Eve; "And y'know what else? I'd do it all again... I wouldn't do a single thing differently. I fought like hell to get to you, and I'll do it to keep you... And I'd do it again, even if I didn't think there was a chance."
Brian gently flew the ship up to the atmosphere, taking his time and going slow. He took a small bite of his sandwich and held her hand as he let the auto pilot lead the ship to the HELM.
Brian; "Thank you... You really do own my heart, darling. I never want to be with anyone else."
She kissed his cheek before resting back in her chair and savoring the sandwich, watching as the ship entered orbit, the HELM slowly coming into view as she gave his hand a squeeze.
Eve; "I don't want anyone else either."
Brian kept the ship flying at a slow place, giving them time to finish their sandwiches. When they finally landed in the hangar bay, only a few frames came to lock the ship down. Brian sighed and held her hand and guided her out and around the HELM. Eve finished her sandwich at the same time as Brian and took his hand with a wide smile. As they walked through the HELMs halls, she glanced down the stairs to where Crow used to be, letting out a sigh as she looked out the window towards the Traveler, still bearing the triangular portal.
Eve; "Hmm... Guess we're next. At some point, at least..."
Brian stared out at the Traveler for a minute, studying the shifting lights around the triangle tear around it.
Brian; "Yeah... If the consequence wasn't so scary....its actually almost beautiful. The way it shines."
Eve nodded softly as she walked with Brian to the window, resting her hands on the railing.
Eve; "It is beautiful, yeah... But, I don't know how if I'll ever be ready; knowing that a lot of Guardians won't make it out, or even get that far... What're the odds we're just gonna be another body in the way?"
Brian grabbed her hands gently and turned her to face him. He was smiling with a twinkle in his eye.
Brian; "We'll be ready, because..."
