Ikora, Cayde, Zavala, Crow and Evelyn fired their weapons at Taken that swarmed them after The Guardian managed to wound The Witness. The five of them burned through the last of the Taken with Cayde firing a shot at a Taken Thrall, while Eve Blinked behind a Taken Acolyte and grabbed them by the shoulders, throwing them to the ground and stomping out their head. Cayde let out a huff as he watched the Taken dissolve under Eves boot.

Cayde; "Show-off."

A boom was heard overhead as the HELM flew overhead, seemingly circling back towards the portal out of the Pale Heart. As it approached, Zavala turned to Evelyn.

Zavala; "Chief, go with Mara; We can handle ourselves."

Evelyn nodded, saluting before sending a Strand grapple to the stern of the HELM, letting herself be pulled out of the arena and out to a balcony where she saw the Guardian lay; she was too far up and they transmatted away too quickly for her to discern class. She touched down on the balcony in front of a Taken Captain and several Taken Thrall. She drew her machine gun and held it in her right, gathering Stasis mist in her left and deploying a Bleak Watcher just to her left.

She proceeded to fire upon the Thrall as the turret froze the Captain, sending an arcane needle at them and shattering them. The Thrall continued to rush towards Eve from blights in the wall, and she continued firing until she was out of ammo. At that point, she put the machine gun on a mount on her back and ignited her chassis in flames and Solar Light, the flames not taking the shape of wings, but a halo at her back. With one hand, she sent a wisp of Solar Light out that ignited the oncoming Thrall, while she held out her other hand and sent a flurry of Celestial Fire bolts. When the Thrall stopped coming, she extinguished the flames, eyes widening when the Witness was heard on the other side of the wall.

'''Witness; "You revel in chaos... And in your wake, THERE IS ONLY SUFFERING!"'''
.
Before she could do anything else, a pair of Grim flew down and picked her up by the forearms, carrying her high into the air as she saw a plume of smoke and maelstrom of arms reaching and prodding through the fortification.

'''Witness; "YOU ARE UNWORTHY OF SALVATION!"'''

She grunted and struggled as they lifted her higher and higher, before finally letting go of her over a gap between blocks of floating terrain. Eve shouted as she began to fall, then narrowed her eyes when something came to mind, letting out a sigh before throwing a hand at one of the Grim, grappling them with Strand and pulling herself towards them.

Eve slammed her knee into the chest of the first Grim, and they disintegrated on impact. The second Grim conjured a sidearm of Resonance and opened fire on Eve as she careened back to them, driving her feet onto their head. This time, before they could disintegrate, Eve held out a hand to drain the Luster from the Grim, her arms glowing with amber plasma and small splinters of black stone, completely consuming the Dread and leaving her alone in her freefall towards the Transgression sector of the Pale Heart.

With a steeled expression, she put out the Resonance at her feet, materializing a small upside down pyramid at her feet, taking hold of it the way one may hold a surf board in attempting to catch a wave. She landed on the peak of a spire of stone, and the board dug in as she slid her way down the pillar... But it got caught on an outcropping and Eve was launched into the dirt near the highway, faceplanting into the ground. Slowly, she lifted her head and stood, holding a hand to her back and letting out a grunt of pain as Nolan appeared in front of her, his shell still cracked and quivering.

Nolan; "Good news and bad news, which first?"

Eve let out a sigh, popping a kink in her neck as she looked to the monolith in the distance.

Eve; "Bad news."

Nolan turned to look as well.

Nolan; "Witness is still kicking."

Eve nodded slowly.
.
Eve; "Yeah... I figured. Good news?"

Nolan turned to look at the portal as a ship began approaching; a Harvester of Caiatls colors.

Nolan; "Thot'gor is on the line asking if you want a pick-up."

Eve turned to look at the approaching ship, cracking a small smile.

Eve; "Yeah... Yeah, that'd be great."

Evelyn walked through the halls of an apartment complex in the Last City, glancing to a card in hand that had the logo of the Vanguard on it, along with the signature of Ikora. She walked up to the door of one of the apartments, 82620, and opened the door. It was fairly luxurious, with a view of the Tower, a bar, a personal vault and a large bathroom. She smiled a moment, but then her smile slowly went down as it registered; this would never be her old home... Nor is this permanent housing.

She let out slow exhale and removed her jacket, walking towards the closet she spotted to the right... Next to a bed that was set a little bit into the floor. Eve then took one of many empty hangars on the rack and hung up her jacket, closing her eyes a moment.

Eve; "Nolan... Can you please ring up Nilzaks?"

After a moment of silence, Nolan appeared over Eves shoulder, the voice of Nilzaks being heard through his shell.

Nilzaks; "Evelyn? You came back from the Great Machine! Is it done, then?"

Eve sighed and began a slow saunter to the fridge behind the bar.

Eve; "Not yet... We know how to kill them, at least. Zavala's organizing a Raid team to make an assault on the Monolith... How's Zorah doing?"

Behind the bar, Eve opened the fridge to see several spheres that seemed to hold water. She took out a few and laid them on the bar, popping one in her mouth.

Nilzaks; "She's doing well, just studying with another of her classmates upstairs. And how are you holding up?"

Eve let out a hum, pausing before swallowing resin that composed the water bubble.

Eve; "Well. I'm alive, anyways. Nolan took a beating, but we made it out alive."
.
Nilzaks cleared his throat as he continued.

Nilzaks; "Well, I'm glad you made it. Perhaps you can come by and have dinner with me and Lyri; Joan's supposed to have fished up a massive carp, and you *know* she doesn't lie about the size of her fish."

Eve chuckled a little, popping another water bubble in her mouth before speaking.

Eve; "Maybe... Can I ask for your honest opinion?"

She swallowed the residue as Nilzaks spoke.

Nilzaks; "Well, I... Don't know if I'm the right person to ask. I've never been a mother."

Eve cracked a small smirk.

Eve; "Does that mean you *could* be a mother?"

Nilzaks stammered out a reply as Eve downed the last bubble.

Nilzaks; "Uh... This isn't about me. The best I can say is, from what I've observed, you're doing a good job. As good as a first time mother can."

Eve nodded, planting her palms flat on the countertop, taking in a deep breath before replying.

Eve; "... I wish I could be more present. I feel like I'm being neglectful."

Nilzaks made a noise somewhere between a scoff and a sharp exhale of frustration, Eve turning to look out the window.

Nilzaks; "Come, now, don't say that! I'm sure if you asked her, she'd understand; you have your duties to the Vanguard and to the Last City... I have mine to House Light, of course, but... It doesn't hurt to delegate some responsibility if you're overwhelmed, I think. I mean, it's not like you can be in two places at once."

Evelyn let out a huff of amusement, her small smile dropping as her expression changed to revelation, seeing the reflection of her Exo face in the window. She reached a hand to the back of her head with apprehension, tapping the connection port at the back of her head, letting out a quiet "huh" before speaking aloud.

Eve; "I suppose not... Thank you again, Nilzaks. Tell Lyri I said hi."
