Nolan flew through the Last City, a small chunk of Glimmer lodged between pieces of his shell. He glided overhead until he reached a building with a sign flashing "Six Fonts Publishing". He went over to the counter and an Awoken greeted him inside.

Awoken; "Nolan! Just in time, we got a juicy one today!"

He set a rolled up magazine on the counter and Nolan scanned over it before dropping off the Glimmer.

Nolan; "... Now, I'm all for the rumor mill, but I think that's a little out there, don't you think?"

The Awoken came over and leaned against the counter with his left arm.

Awoken; "... Hive using the Light, Guardians using the Darkness, a haunted ship orbiting the Moon and a whole planet disappearing and reappearing in a year? Way less believable than Zavala marrying Caiatl."

Nolan simply shrugged and pushed the Glimmer closer to the Awoken before preparing to depart for the Tower, but stopped when an Eliksni called to him.

"Excuse me! Ghost!"

Nolan turned to face them with a sigh.

Nolan; "Yeah?"

"My name is Eido. I'm a Scribe for House Light."

Nolan; "Ah, yeah, I heard of you. What do you want?"

Eido; "I was wondering if you'd be open to an interview. For House Light records. I've always wanted a first hand account of a Ghost for the records."

Nolan pondered the question a moment before shrugging.

Nolan; "Alright, but on one condition; you're walking with me back to the Tower."

Eido; "Perfectly acceptable."

They began their slow walk towards the elevator up to the Tower, and Eido produced a datapad in her upper hands from under her cloak.

Eido; "So... Name, and Guardian if you have one?"

Nolan; "Just call me Nolan. And, unfortunately, I do. Her name is Evelyn-7."

Eido; "The Chief of Security? Why consider yourself unlucky?"

Nolan; "I wasn't too keen on having a Guardian. I was perfectly content to read the tabloids and gossip with the townsfolk."

Eido; "So, you would've never gone to look for a Guardian? What changed your mind?"

Nolan; "Nothing changed my mind, I never wanted to go. But, Ikora has a mean glare."

Eido; "So Ikorakel sent you away to find a Guardian, as all other Ghosts do. You were made by the Great Machine for this purpose; why deny it for so long?"

Nolan; "Couldn't tell you... Every Ghost I heard about had the urge to go find someone but... Not me."

The two recoiled as a pair of Speeders flew down the road in front of them, kicking up dirt and dust.

Eido; "It's unusual to see Guardians treat their Ghosts as lessers in the worst case, or as equals in the best. But I've never heard of a Ghost not revere their duty to the Light and the Traveler."

Nolan; "I never really paid much attention to what the Traveler thought of me. When I went out with the billions of other Ghosts, who immediately went to work looking for a stiff, I just kinda sat there... Watched the city build up around me."

Eido; "So you don't value the opinions of the Great Machine... What of Evelyn? What does she think of you?"

Nolan stopped in his tracks, staring straight ahead, as if his train of thought had been derailed. Time seemed to slow as he searched deep for the answer, only giving a hushed reply.

Nolan; "... I don't know. I... I never asked."

Eido nodded and tapped in a few final notes onto the datapad.

Eido; "I see... Thank you for your time, Nolan."

Nolan replied without looking at her, his gaze fixed on the Tower overhead.

Nolan; "Yeah, sure thing, kid. Give Mithrax the Chiefs' regards."

Nolan took off upwards for the Wall, going past Eva as she had workers packing away the Solstice decorum, heading straight to Eves' desk. She was there, a bowl of pork teriyaki next to a stack of paperwork. Nolan came over hesitantly, and Evelyn took notice of his altered behavior.

Eve; "Hey, Nolan... Everything ok?"

Nolan; "Yeah... Yeah, I'm fine. Just... Got a lot on my mind."

Eve; "Oh... Ok."

She went ahead and took a bite of the teriyaki as Nolan glanced side to side, unable to put to words what he wanted to say.

Eve; "You sure you're alright? ... You seem antsy."

Nolan sighed before replying.

Nolan; "... Eve... What, do you think of me?"

Evelyn squinted a little in thought, leaning back in her chair.

Eve; "... Hmm... I think, you're a little grumpy, maybe a little mean at times. Definitely someone that'd rather be alone."

She leaned forward again to look him in the eye.

Eve; "But, I also think you never knew what to do with a purpose. You didn't want one, you didn't think you needed one and you don't know what to do with the one you have. You saw everything around you change, from the moment you were released from the Traveler, you thought you could be the one stable thing in your life... I could be wrong, though, I might just be rambling-"

She was interrupted by Nolan coming over and pressing himself against her chest, making a noise akin to shaky breathing. She gently clasped Nolan in her hands, shushing him quietly.

Eve; "Shh... It's ok... I got you. You're gonna be ok."

She gently rocked him back and forth, holding him close and humming quietly.

For as long as he needed her.
