Alexia took care of Martina whenever she woke up this night. She was fuzzy, constantly crying, I think it was her stomach that was bothering her. I woke up every time she started crying, but Alexia always pushed me back down in bed, mumbling something about taking it this time. It was sweet of her and getting to sleep instead of being up with Martina was amazing.
It was the first time in a long while that I felt well-rested when I woke up. It was also the first time that I managed to sleep in since Martina was born. The first time that in a month that I wasn't woken up by Martina before seven. It was nine in the morning, and it was strange that I had managed to sleep this long.
"Good morning my love" Alexia said as I walked into the kitchen. She was carrying Martina and was standing in her training kit. I knew she had to go in for a recovery session soon. She probably already needed to be there but let me sleep in instead of getting there on time. "It was quiet when I woke up. I missed you both" I said and kissed her. "I'll take Martina so you can go to training" I continued and reached out to grab her. "Breakfast first" Alexia said sternly and swatted my hand away.
She walked around the kitchen while I ate a bowl of Greek yoghurt. Cooking was difficult with a newborn who constantly needed my attention, especially when Alexia was so busy with football. I knew she did everything possible to a present parent to Martina and a present partner to me.
"I'm done, so I'll take Martina and then you need to go to training" I said, motioning for Alexia to hand Martina to me. "Kiss goodbye?" Alexia asked with a shy smile on her face. I placed my lips over hers, kissing her softly.
She left after that, and I watched as she drove to training. As her car made it out of the driveway and left me and Martina alone.
I put Martina down for a nap and changed into a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. For once, I had time to do my makeup and fix my hair when she was sleeping. We were going grocery shopping, a list had been made and all I needed to do was to re-write it in the correct order. Martina woke up as I was doing it, and I had to continue with her in her baby carrier.
After I was done with the list, I started driving us there. Doing anything with a newborn was difficult, especially as I was still recovering from giving birth. I can't believe the hospital just sends you home after you push a mass, weighing three kilos, out of you, with no pain relief. It fascinated me!
It was difficult, as Martina still cried whenever she was mildly dissatisfied, and it wasn't fun when she did that in a big store, but we managed. She was asleep the entire shopping trip, in her carrier against my chest. It was the best way to carry her whenever I did something else, a purchase that was absolutely necessary.
I got back to an empty house, and just left everything inside the car as Martina was hungry. The things you do as a parent was incredible. I would do anything for my little girl.
She stayed awake as I unpacked the groceries, curled up against my chest in her carrier. As of now, she was almost 1.5 kg heavier than when she was born, a healthy weight, but it was tougher to carry her.
"How do you feel about us going on a hike?" Alexia said as she returned. I knew she had already eaten and showered, as had I. A salad from the grocery store that I had picked up during my shopping. "That sounds great, but nothing to strenuous" I answered. Alexia kissed me softly. Her hand rested on my back as she did. Martina was in between us, still awake which was strange. She slept a lot, but now she was wide awake and had been for an hour. Not crying or anything, just content with being here.
I changed into a pair of black biker shorts, a pink tank top, with a black sweater over it. Then Alexia drove us to Parc de Montjuïc where we would do our short hike, just a bit over 3 km long. It was the perfect length for me after giving birth, noting strenuous and quite short.
