8. Loss

(y/n) fanned his face lightly, it had grown be something like a habit to him. He didn't feel the wind blow on his face, and he couldn't even feel the folding fan in his hand.

He still did it, not because he could cool himself off or because it felt nice, he did it just because he could.

What (y/n) felt right now didn't matter to him. That was how he had grown accustomed to things. Instead of thinking about what you're missing, think about what you still have.

Just like with Morro. What (y/n) was missing was Morro, but what he had was the 'promise' they made. (y/n) would live. Forever.

(y/n) could still smell; The smell of the incense (y/n)'s downstairs neighbor used slipping into the balcony above. The faint smell of gasoline and smoke from the city. It all disturbed (y/n) from smelling the fresh wind.

(y/n) could still hear; Large crowds, all screaming at the top of their lungs. Something crumbling, rocks flying. And a cry of a beast, a hiss that probably had a meaning, but no one would ever translate it.

(y/n) could still see; Civilians running in every which direction as fear muffled all their other thoughts. Fire and destruction. And in the middle of it all, a giant snake.

(y/n) observed it all from his balcony, at the top floor of the building. It was in a place you could see everything from, but it was still far away from the center of the city. And thankfully so, (y/n) did not want to be caught up in all the destruction going on.

A Master of Fire, a Master of Lightning, a Master of Ice and a Master of Earth. A small team, but a team none the less. Ninjago was usually a safe place, and that was because of these four.

(y/n) was glad, Wu had continued without minding his and Morro's departure. But sometimes (y/n) wondered if Wu missed them at all, or if he had forgotten them all together. But there was one thing that bothered (y/n).

Without any explanation given to the public, a little kid had come along. A kid without a purpose, just a faker that was given the title of 'the Green Ninja' blindly. The green ninja qi the little kid wore revealed it all.

Now that kid was part of the team giving their all to fight against a giant snake, but it wasn't working. (y/n) had a feeling they would come up with something sooner or later, so he just kept observing while everyone else retreated to somewhere out of sight. Understandably, they didn't want to get eaten by a snake.

"That little snake bit my brother when we were your age. Ever since then, we have slowly drifted apart." It was the same snake. The same snake that bit Wu's brother, a person (y/n) had called uncle before. Garmadon.

Speaking of Garmadon, he was there too. He didn't look like how he used to. His skin was not a humans, he had four arms, and helmet that was like a finishing touch to his 'evil lord' persona. That must have been what a bit from the Great Devourer could do to a human.

The ninja handed their weapons to Garmadon. The evil lord now possessed the worlds four most powerful weapons, how nice. Garmadon and the ninja seemed to be working together to defeat the bigger threat.

(y/n) sighed, and walk inside his small apartment, switching from looking at his feet to his surroundings every few seconds. The apartment was pure eye candy, (y/n) had hired a professional interior designer to put the place together. (y/n) didn't really care about how much he spent on that, he had enough money to feed an entire orphanage and more after all.

As to how he got the money... In his time living, he had applied to a school or a few, got a few decrees, and a lot of well paying jobs. He hated most of the things he could do though, and only one or two jobs had stuck out from the rest.

But of course he also had connections. Not friends, merely just acquaintances from the many boring places he had worked at.

Although his place was nice, it wasn't really a home for him. (y/n) did have some small souvenirs from all over Ninjago, which gave the place the feel of a hoarders cave, but everything else just made the place look boring and dull.

The building seemed to be shaking, (y/n) knew it from the way the furniture shook, and the sound of clattering of objects. The giant snake must have been nearby. (y/n) wasn't sure if he was safe anymore, he thought the ninja would have managed to keep the snake away, but he was wrong.

His balance was fucked up enough as it is, now if the building he was in started shaking, the chances of falling down were even higher than usual. And as expected, a loud crash rang out.

Some of his stuff toppled over, some fell onto the floor, and as (y/n) reached out for support, he fell down. Why was it that today of all days he couldn't feel a thing?!

(y/n) wanted to get up, he had practiced controlling his limbs even if he couldn't feel them, and he had been practicing for tens of years! He knew how to get up, just keeping his gaze on his limbs, that's all he needed to do.

But the trembling ground he couldn't feel made everything much more complicated. Just as he crawled up, another loud bang sounded, but this time (y/n) gripped onto a shelf before he could lose balance. He was going to rush out of the apartment, head to the elevator or the stairs, and get out like every other citizen, when a sudden shout caught his attention.

When one of your senses was gone, the rest were in peak condition, and of course his hearing was too. (y/n) flipped his head towards the direction of the shout, towards the direction of his still open balcony door.

It was Garmadon. Standing on top of one of Ninjago's tallest buildings, all four golden weapons in his four hands. The purple glow made the sight ominous, and (y/n) could swear the clear blue sky darkened.

"You bit me once. Now feel what it's like to be bitten back!" Garmadon's shout was loud enough to be heard inside the apartment. (y/n) rushed back to the balcony door, he didn't step out, but just watched from the doorway as Garmadon jumped right down towards the giant snake that had gotten stuck biting it's own tail.

Ouroboros, the snake that ate it's own tail. A symbol of life, death, and rebirth. (y/n) had never liked the idea. He even visited the city of Ouroboros once, right after the snakes had to abandon their beloved home, and instead got forced into tombs for all of eternity. Well, we all know how that ended.

"Vengeance will be mine!" With one more shout, Garmadon crashed right into a small glowing spot on the giant snake's forehead. It let out a cry of agony louder than anything (y/n) had heard before, before it exploded into a wave of green goo.

When (y/n) noticed the blast of green slime was headed everywhere, and it even covering whole buildings, he paled. He shut the balcony door just in time as the green goo splattered and covered the whole building.

The Great Devourer... was now gone. (y/n) waited until there wasn't even the slightest noise before he opened the balcony door again. Some slime slid inside, but not enough to be a problem. (y/n) avoided stepping on any of it as he moved to the balcony.

He held onto the railing as he looked down at the destruction left. People had returned to the streets, celebrating with loud cheers together. The ninja were on top of another building, probably celebrating too.

There was a lady hugging her slime covered dog tightly, giving it kisses as it wagged it's tail. A group of kids were giggling as they ran around throwing goo at each other in a playful war. A news reporter and her cameraman started a broadcast right away at the very spot the Great Devourer had been destroyed.

Everyone seemed to be all smiles, happy because they were safe. There was one person who caught (y/n)'s attention, however.

A little girl sat in an open ambulance, a brown blanket covering her shoulders. Two paramedics tried to talk to her, but the girl was frozen, her mouth didn't move, and her eyes stared at the ground.

Of course, not all was well.
