Chapter 37

"Lalabas lang kami. Sa dancefloor lang." someone said and then everyone is gone.

Nagtinginan kaming dalawa ni Rake. Kaming dalawa na lang ang natira sa room. Umiling-iling ako at uminom ng isa pang shot.

I felt my heart beat faster. Uminom ulit ako ng isa pang shot pero lalong bumilis ang tibok ng puso ko kaya uminom pa ako ng isa pa.

Ramdam ko ang panonood ni Rake sa akin. After fixing his clothes, he took a seat on the couch in front of me. Inangat ko ang tingin ko sa kanya. He is seated with his legs wide apart and his arms spread on the backrest.

He's watching me intensely. Bumilis lalo ang tibok ng puso ko. I'm not sure if it's the beat from the loud music outside that's making my heart beat loud and faster or it's the person in front of me.

"Damn it." I cursed under my breath and drank another shot.

Hindi ko na tinanong kung bakit siya nandito. I bet my cousins invited him here. I'm still shocked that he's here, though. I thought he went home already. Akala ko malinaw ang usapan namin noong huli kaming nag-usap na ayaw ko nang makita ang pagmumukha niya pero nandito pa rin siya.

"I had a meeting around the area and Jake invited me." aniya makalipas ang ilang sandaling katahimikan sa pagitan namin. "How much have you drank?"

"I didn't ask." sabi ko at uminom ulit. "Where the fuck is Paulo?"

"I guess you're drunk already 'coz your pretty mouth is cursing."

Sinamaan ko siya ng tingin. I drank another shot while looking at him. Nag-angat siya ng isang kilay at minasahe iyon gamit ang kamay niyang nakasandal pa rin sa backrest ng couch.

Parang uminit sa loob ng room. I guess it's because of the alcohol. Mukhang naparami na naman ako ng inom.

"Stop drinking, woman." aniya nang uminom ulit ako. "And you should wear a coat or something. You'll get cold with that dress."

I looked at my spaghetti strap fitted dress. I covered it up with my coat while in the office but removed it and forgot to bring it because Nica pulled me hastily to go here.

"You don't have a say on me. Fuck off."

I saw his jaw clenched. He looked a bit annoyed now. His lips pursed. Kalaunan umiling siya at kumuha ng Jack Daniel's.

Pabagsak akong sumandal sa couch. I can feel the dizziness now. The alcohol is starting to seep through me.

Bumukas ang pinto at pumasok si Paulo. He looked shocked when he saw Rake. Ngumisi ako at tumayo para lapitan siya.

"Paulo!" I sweetly called him and walked towards him.

Muntik pa akong matumba. Nahuli ako ni Paulo sa bewang. Tumawa ako at sinandal ang ulo sa kanya. His hand held my waist but it slightly went down to the side of my buttocks.

"You want to go home?" tanong ni Paulo sa akin.

Hinarap ko siya at ngumiti. I know Rake is watching us. I can feel his seething stare from my back.

I put my arms around Paulo and smiled sweetly. Mapungay na ang mga mata ko sa magkahalong antok at pagkahilo. Tumango ako.

"Yeah, let's go home." my voice was sweet too.

Paulo smirked over my shoulder. He looked at me and held my chin up.

"Alright, Mich."

Paulo closed his eyes and I watched his face getting closer to mine. Unti-unti na rin akong pumikit sa pagkahilo at sobrang antok.
