One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon and the city lights began to flicker to life, Alex found himself pacing anxiously in the living room of their family home. Anna-Joy was late, and every passing minute only added to his worry. He had tried calling her multiple times, but her phone went straight to voicemail.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the front door creaked open, and Anna-Joy stepped inside, her cheeks flushed and her eyes sparkling with excitement.
"Where have you been?" Alex demanded, his voice tinged with concern. "You had me worried sick!"
Anna-Joy's expression softened as she met her brother's gaze. "I'm sorry, Alex," she said, her voice apologetic. "I lost track of time. I met someone today, and we ended up hanging out longer than I expected."
Alex's brow furrowed in confusion. "Who did you meet?""Just a new friend,her name is Laura" Anna-Joy replied, a small smirk playing on her lips. "You'll meet her soon enough."
Despite his lingering apprehension, Alex couldn't help but feel relieved that Ann was safe and sound. He made a mental note to keep a closer eye on her in the future, even if she was old enough to take care of herself.
As the days passed, Alex couldn't shake the nagging feeling that something was amiss. Ann seemed happier than usual, her laughter echoing through the halls of their home as she chatted animatedly with her new friend. And yet, there was something about the way she talked about this mystery person that piqued Alex's curiosity.
One afternoon, as Alex was strolling through the bustling streets of the city, he bumped into someone—a girl with fiery eyes and a mischievous grin. It took him a moment to recognize her, but when he did, a wave of realization washed over him.
"Ann?" he exclaimed, his voice tinged with disbelief.
"Hey, Alex!" Anna-Joy replied, her smile widening as she enveloped her brother in a tight hug. "Fancy meeting you here."
As they walked side by side, Alex couldn't help but marvel at the serendipity of it all. The girl his sister had befriended turned out to be none other than the same girl he had bumped into weeks ago, a girl who had captured his attention from the moment they met.
