Chapter six.
"Over the bridge!"
Ariadne followed Legolas over the narrow bridge as the heat hit their backs. A great creature lingers in the darkness before it stepped out of the flames. Towering over the Fellowship, its body was like a man, but its head help horns like a skull of a bull, its eyes burned and glowed. As it stepped towards them, its bat-like wings splayed out behind itself.
In front of her Frodo stops, turning on his heal to watch Gandalf pause in the middle of the bridge. The demon straightened to its full height, flames erupting from its figure as Legolas gently pulled her back, Frodo cried out in to the wizard.
"I am a servant of the secret fire, wielder of the flame of Arnor!" The wizard shouts as the creature draws its flaming sword, "Dark fire shall not avail you, Flame of Udun!"
As the creature moved to bring down his sword, Gandalf deflected it with a shout, a protective sphere of light protecting him, "Go back to the shadow!"
The stone of the bridge cracked under the demons weight as it drew a second weapon, a harsh flaming whip that cracked with a sickening sound. Ariadne watched in worry as she subconsciously took Legolas's hand in her own as the Fellowship watched helplessly as Gandalf brought up his staff and sword.
"You shall not pass!"
The force of the spell, the Balrog took a step back from the wizard raising its whip to strike the wizard. The creature roared in fury as it tumbled into the abyss as the bridge fell under it, claws scratching the stone as it tries to reach for Gandalf. Plummeting down into the darkness, the wizard turns to the Fellowship with a tired smile.
"Gandalf!"
The bullwhip snapped up through the air, catching the wizard's ankle, dragging Gandalf off his feet, barely catching the edge of the bridge with his fingertips and desperately trying to cling onto the edge. Legolas pulled Ariadne along who stared eyes wide at the horror unfolding in front of them, his elvish senses picking up the Orcs screams as they near. The wizard peers up at them, eyes wondering over the Fellowship.
"Fly you fools."
The Hobbit's shouted as Legolas quickly pulls Ariadne towards him as an arrow embedded itself into the wall where she once stood. Boromir holds Frodo in his arms as the Hobbit shouts. Arrows skimmed them as they all stood distraught, seemingly stood frozen in shock.
Ariadne took a shaky breath before gently pulling Merry and Pinnin along with her, following up the stairs behind Legolas who looked over his shoulder at her in worry as a tear ran down her cheek. They soon emerged out of the mines and out into the daylight on the mountainside.
Ariadne watched as the Hobbits fell into sobs and mourning, looking around she swallowed thickly looking over at Legolas who stood frozen watching over the mountainside. She wiped the fallen tear off her dusty cheek, her shaky legs carrying her towards the mourning Elf. She gently places a hand on his shoulder, looking up at him as his blue eyes meets hers.
