The moon has disappeared, the room is filled with silence and slow breathing of Taehyung who has been quiet for minutes. The fire crackles on the side, Jungkook's nose burns with the smell of it along with his heart. He waits, has been waiting for Taehyung to leave. The older seems to be thinking, face blank and hand shaking. The rain has increased, Jungkook counts the droplets on the glassed window even though they flowing down faster than light and joining the muddy water on the other windows of the buildings.
"I just wanted to see you, I know this is..unexpected and my apologizes, but wanted to come to your place earlier, but my car stopped working in the middle..and it took me two hours to reach here" Jungkook has a lot of questions. But he doesn't need the answers when there will be no use. Why Taehyung wanted to see him, what motivate him to visit him after years--why he wasted two hours of his precious time to reach here? did he walk or- Jungkook swallows the questions down, sighs and sits up. His chair makes a small noise, catching the older's attention.
"look, I don't want to know anything. All I want is you to leave because I don't appreciate some stranger at my place at this time, never really wanted a guest and if you are do-"
"Jungkook would you let me finish?"
Then he looks at the younger for a minute, voice stern but eyes soft. It reminds Jungkook of thunders, how the clouds are so soft cotton yet makes the world look so miserable from how dark and ugly it is, how cruel it is, yet so powerful ? He too, holds his gaze with his, jaw tight and breath stuck. Because no, he won't let Taehyung finish and he is close to calling the police. Who he thinks he is?
"I got your address from your cousin" Jungkook mentally takes a note to block his cousin from social media. "Listen. Don't get mad at him, it took me a month and a promise to convince him...and I won't leave you again unless I fulfill it." Then Taehyung waits for the younger to react, response--move or anything. Because Jungkook has been quiet, quiet as if Taehyung doesn't exist.
At night his cousin, Kim Seokjin and he used to climb on their mountain nearby their home back in Busan. The mountain wasn't magically decorated with flowers and fireflies as stories and movies has exaggerated about, but it was peaceful, random and very lonely. They used to catch bugs from the hidden pond that was filthy with dead leaves and plastics. Yet the water sparkled and gave the pond more value than the shining of diamond or Rubi. His legs were too tiny to cross the bridge on the pond, by his chubby sticky fingers decorated with dirt never left Seokjin's. Seokjin always made sure to let him reach the other side before himself.
But right now, it brings a sour taste in his mouth that makes him want to throw up.
Because.
"Leave." Jungkook shakes his head. He grabs the older's coat that Taehyung dropped outside on his doorstep and pinches it between his fingers as if it would burn him. Before the older can respond, the piece of fabric is thrown at him. Taehyung catches it. The storm outside is harsh, Jungkook is sure no one is outside right now. The city that never sleeps, looks like a city that is dead, lonely and fucking cruel. No one is alive to sleep.
Taehyung opens his mouth, but Jungkook is already leaving him in the living room, opening the main door.
"I will call the police Kim I am not joking" He says, and Taehyungs face appears a few seconds later, standing in front of the door, shoulder hunched, eyes restless-body is too weak to fight the storm outside. "leave." Junkook's face is pinched with frustration, anger, and glimpse of hurt that never leaves. He folds his arms over his chest, eyes burning onto the floor as it traces the patter of the tiles. He hears a sigh.
"Alright" The older nods.
Jungkook waits.
But he does not make a motion to leave as if his feet are glued to the floor. He has grown little taller than Jungkook. But his broad shoulder does not make him feel putty, his height does not make him weak on his knees, his curiosity about Taehyung's promise to Seokjin doesn't become desperate enough for him to ask what the promise is. Because Taehyung, would never be someone who would be able to keep one.
"I will see you again, and-" Taehyung pauses, leaning against the door, his messy hair pushed back revealing his strong eyebrows, the light from hallway surrounds around him, his face is shaded from the darkness of Jungkook's apartment. And he looks like someone who is blocking the sunlight.
Jungkook's hand is already on the door handle.
"My promise was to make you fall in love with me again, and to never leave."
Jungkook shuts the door. Runs to his bathroom. Next thing he knows, he is hunched in front of the toilet seat, whatever he managed to eat in the afternoon, is now flushing down the bowl. His throat fucking burns.
