I slowly walked in Mr. Dixon's room, hoping I wouldn't be seen. That didn't turn out as good as I hoped.
"Miss Taylor, you're late."
"I know. I'm sorry, it won't happen again."
"It better not. But for this being the second time that you've been late, you get detention."
"Detention?"
"Yes. Detention. So that means you'll be in here during your study hall."
"Dammit." I muttered under my breath so no one could here.
"All right class, now we'll be having a big test soon, so I've made you all study guides to work with a partner."
As soon as he said that, Austin and his group of jerks came through the door.
"Mr. James. Late again."
"I know sir. But I promise I won't do it anymore."
"I've had enough of your lies, Mr. James. Now you have detention."
"Fine. Whatever." He came over and took the seat next to me.
"Looks like I've got detention with you, babe."
"How do you even know I got detention?"
"I saw your name written under his 'detention' list on his desk. What'd you do?"
"I thought you knew. You're the idiot that made me late and now I have it because of you."
"C'mon babe. You'll be fine." he said touching my hand.
"Don't touch me, you jerk."
*OVER INTERCOM*
"Austin James, could you please report to the principal's office?"
"Good. As long as I'm out of here. See ya later, Ashlee."
"In your dreams."
*INTERCOM*
"Ashlee Taylor could you please report to the office."
"What the hell did I do?"
"Looks like you're coming with me."
"Shut up."
I walked ahead of him at a faster pace. I got into the office before he did and sat down.
"Miss Taylor and Mr. James, please come with me." Our principal, Mrs. Rebecca, told us. We did as we were told and went in her office and sat down.
"Ok, exactly why am I here? I know I didn't do anything."
"You didn't. This concerns Austin."
"Then why am I here?"
"I'm getting to that. Austin I'm afraid you're failing geometry. And Coach Jason said you either get your grades up or you're off the football team."
"What? He can't kick me off the team! I'm the captain!"
"I'm afraid he can. Now I'm getting to the point where Ashlee comes in. She apparently has straight A's in the class. I thought it would be a good idea for her to tutor you until your grades improve."
"What? I can't tutor him! He's helpless!"
"Ashlee, don't you care about him passing?"
"No! I don't! I don't even care about him! He's just some stupid jerk!"
"Well I'm sorry, but the coach and I already agreed and you're Mr. Dixon's best student. So you're doing it."
"I can't believe this."
I left the room and headed straight back for class.
"Ashlee, wait!"
"Speaking of the jerks. What do you want, Austin?"
"Please help me. I don't wanna be kicked off the football team. I really need a scholarship. Please tutor me. I need to pass."
"Look, I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'll help you. Just promise me you'll actually try and not flirt with me."
"I promise. So when should we start?"
"Well, we have that big geometry test next week. So, I'm guessing we should start around tomorrow after school. Just walk home with me."
"Ok. Got it."
We went back to class and got back to work. I couldn't wait for tomorrow to get over with.
