Chapter 20: Finally Friends

[A/N: SURPRISE! Double update! Oh btw, the timeline of this chapter was when Emma was going to the hangout. Contains long flashbacks.]

"Man up, Jax. You can do this." I repeated in my head. I glanced at the flowers in my hand, smiling at the moment I remembered from our first anniversary.

I pulled out a bocquet of flowers and handed it to Emma, as if all the other handmade no-magic work I'd done around us wasn't enough. This anniversary date was more than just perfect, and I can tell by her smile.

"Daisies, your favorite."

I sighed once more, thinking that she would reject me anyway. I already transformed himself into a better person (or so as I thought) from that troublesome carefree rebel bad boy who almost killed her girlfriend to a [slightly] responsible, mature, caring wizard.

Almost killed my girlfriend.

It felt like a stab in the heart whenever I would remember that. Why did I even bother to follow my father's orders to steal Emma's powers? I was such a horrible person.

She's the Chosen One; her powers are one of the most important things to keep her alive (besides her heart, of course). Once they are taken away, so will her life.

Actually, when my father forced me to steal the Chosen One's powers, I didn't even think through carefully. In fact, I didn't even think at all! I didn't even know that her powers are attached to her life. If only I knew earlier, she wouldn't have been harmed and she wouldn't have broken up with me.

But on the current time, I'm still on her good side... or so as I thought. She might not see it but I know other people do.

I was distracted from my thoughts when I saw her leave the front door, walked away carelessly, and bumped me in the process.

"Em... hi," I greeted. Her eyes widdened in surprise when she saw the flowers. Is that a good sign or-

"Jax, what are you doing here?"

"I..." USE WORDS, NOVOA. Now, I heard her groan softly.

"Look, Jax, I'd love to stay and talk but I need to be at Andi's right now." she shoved her way past me, making a run for it. I looked at her as she ran away as I felt... stupid.

Maybe Daniel wasn't right.

At the middle of the night, my phone suddenly rang. I groaned, not wanting to answer some call at 3 in the morning. Wait... what if it was Em? I quickly took a glimpse of the caller ID, who appeared to be unknown. I decided to answer it anyways. "Hello?"

"Jax, this is Daniel." Daniel? He had to call at the middle of the night. Cue the groaning.

"What do you want?" I don't have time for him.

I heard a sigh from the other end of the call, "Look Jax, I know you hate me and all but I'm here to tell you something you will most likely want to hear."

I took a deep breath, trying not to let the bad side take over me (aka scream at Daniel). "Keep talking."

"I just wanted you to know that I'm not a bad person. The wrong things I did to hurt Emma, I regret them all."

I rolled my eyes. "Then you should be talking to her instead!"

"I purposely let her go even if she was hurt in the process. It's not because I don't love her anymore; it's just because I want her to give her ultimate happiness, even if it's not with me."

"What's your point?"

"Jax, I want you to make her happy. I know you two still like each other. You can take your chance anytime now. While she's still down, help her back up on her feet. I realized that you have been a better boyfriend to her than I have."

This moment was the perfect time to shout back at him and say, "I told you so." but my cockiness wasn't the best thing right now. Instead, I smiled and truthfully replied, "Thank you."

He chuckled, "And while we're at the topic, I hope we can at least be friends now that this whole thing is over."

I chuckled as well, saying, "Will do. Bro's?"

"Bro's." Never have I ever thought that friendship with Daniel could be possible.

Okay, I might not be a fan of Demma but I don't hate Daniel. He's not a bad person. So here, I crafted him into a better character.
