Chapter 11: The Orientation

Emma

Today, the teacher started discussing about our batch field trip. I wasn't really listening to the details. I just twirled my pen with my fingers and clutched my other hand in my cheeks as I waited for the discussion to end. All I heard was:

"The trip will be on Thursday."

"Make sure to be in school before 7am..."

"We will be visiting Zoo Miami, Gold Coast Railroad Museum..."

"Friday will be your free day and will also serve as your rest day after the trip."

And then, after the discussion, the teacher started to announce the pairs during the trip. I was wishing that the pairings would be by threes so Andi, Mia, and I will be together throughout the trip and sit together in the bus and that we could choose out own partners this year but no - none of my wishes came true.

"Sebastian and Gigi," the teacher announced, "Diego and Philip, Pablo and Lisa, Marie and Joshua, Andi and Mia," great.

"Emma and," the teacher scrolled through her list, "Jax."

Crap.

I looked back to Andi & Mia and they were just as surprised as I am. Then I looked over to Jax, he was also just as surprised as I am. I'm not even sure of what I'm supposed to feel right now.

"... and as for the Panthers, since only you three are left, you get paired as a trio."

Great. My wish landed on the Panthers. Maybe the imaginary shooting star landed on Maddie because when I wished for it, I was right next to her. Now here she is, still right beside me, celebrating, giggling. She must've noticed the irritated look at my face when she stopped her high pitched giggles.

I am on a trip to awkwardness.

Andi

After class, Emma, Mia, and I walked to our lockers together. Emma was still freaking out about being paired with Jax for the field trip. Lucky for me, Mia became my partner.

"Don't worry, Em. It'll be fun!" I tried to hypen up her mood.

She sighed as she opened her locker. "Getting paired by my ex-boyfriend to sit and be with all day during the field trip is not my idea of fun."

Mia advised, "If things get awkward, fake a call and get out of the situation."

Not long after, the PA system called her off to the Principal's Office. I assume it was Francisco calling her out. I don't know anyone else who says, "Thank you, thank you very much," in an annoying tone.

"Let's be honest; in the end, they'll either be in a more awkward position." Mia called out.

We looked at each other and realized, "Yeah, they will."

Author's Note:
The next few chapters are going to be pretty interesting. I finished writing this last Friday and planned to publish in on Wednesday but the Publish button was too tempting to press so I published this two days too early.

Expect the Chapter 12 to come on the weekend, and Chapter 13, my favorite chapter, to come next week Tuesday. The updates might come earlier than expected if I get too tempted so...
