Olivia knew that she wanted a home-birth this time, she knew that she felt so comfortable and happy in her new home that it was the only place worthy enough of bringing a baby into the world.
She decided that her pains were barely even noticeable, so they sat down as a family and had dinner together on the patio. Bernie and Elliot had made Chilli together - the family recipe, the older Stabler had said as they cooked it. A recipe that she wasn't ready to share with Olivia, not after hearing about how terrible of a cook she was.
Gentle laughter fills the patio as they enjoy their meal, occasionally followed by a soft moan from Olivia as she rubs her belly, brow furrowed with a cute look of concentration on her face. Elliot wasn't concerned for one second, Olivia was being amazingly calm, considering she was in labour. Kathy would've been screaming and swearing at Elliot by this point, but not his strong Liv. She really was wonder woman to him.
The Tuscan sun dipped below the rolling hills, casting an orange glow across the terracotta patio. Olivia's hair was alight with the fiery hues of dusk as she sat nestled in a weathered wooden chair. Her family, a tapestry of joy etched on their faces, basked in the golden light and the easy comfort of the moment. A moment she didn't want to end. She wished she could just take the moment and keep it in a jar, that she could look back on whenever she needed a pick me up.
"Let me know when you're ready to call the doctor," Elliot says gently, taking Olivia's hand from across the table as he notices the pains getting closer and by the look on her face, more painful.
"I'd like to have a bath first," Olivia smiles, slowly standing from her chair. "Thank you for dinner."
"Don't worry about it," Bernie smiles, watching as her son and his wife make the slow walk back into the house. She can tell that things are progressing quicker than Olivia will let on. The second time always goes quicker.
Steam swirls around the freestanding bathtub, fragrant with the scent of lavender and rosemary. Soft candlelight flickers across the worn marble floor, casting dancing shadows on the rough stone walls. Through the expansive window, the Tuscan landscape unfolds in a breathtaking panorama. Bensler Orchards, bathed in the golden hues of dusk, dotted with ancient cypress trees like sentinels against the fiery sky. Lavender fields, their purple blooms now tinged with twilight, exhaled their intoxicating perfume, carried on the gentle breeze that whispered through the open window.
"This is perfect," Olivia says tearfully as she walks into the bathroom. Elliot had left her in the bedroom while he got everything ready for her. She knew she wanted to try and relax in their beautiful bathtub for as long as possible during labour, and Elliot had set it up perfectly for her. She steps out of her clothes and eases herself slowly into the hot water, exhaling happily as it tingles against her skin.
"I'll call doctor Rossi and tell her what is happening," Elliot says, pressing his lips to Liv's forehead. "I will be right back."
Olivia closes her eyes, her hands on her belly. She has loved being pregnant, though it has felt like it has gone on an eternity. She rubs the bump in soft circles. "I'm going to miss this," she says out loud to no one but herself.
