Olivia cradles the new baby in her arms as they walk down the footpath. Aldo has something to show them– something that will make them very happy, he says. They follow him to the old cobblestone steps of the orchard, and Liv gasps at the sight before her. Aldo has made them a wooden sign and attached it to the gate. It reads– Bensler Orchards.
"Oh, Aldo," Liv grins tearfully, still hormonal. "È bellissimo!"
"It is a present," He smiles, proudly standing next to the wooden sign.
"Thank you," Elliot smiles, snaking his arm around Liv's waist. "It's official, Bensler Orchards."
"This is your home," Liv says to Isabella, holding her up to see the oranges.
"I helped Aldo make the sign," Ivy says proudly, taking a photo of it on her phone.
"Good job, baby," Liv smiles, hugging Ivy.
"Mama, Francesca has invited me on her dads boat. Can I go?" she asks, still hugging Olivia.
"Is her dad going to be there?"
"Yes," Ivy smiles.
"Then yes, you can."
"Thanks!" she grins, running back up the path towards the house.
"Aldo, I need to get the baby out of the sun," Liv smiles at the older italian man, and he nods, waving them off as she and Elliot follow their daughter.
Sunlight dapples through the canopy of citrus trees, casting a mosaic of light and shadow on the worn terracotta path. Olivia, her sundress the colour of a summer sky, brushes a hand against a plump orange, its scent mingling with the heady perfume of roses. Beside her, Elliot chuckles, his hand on the small of her back. The cicadas sing their ceaseless summer song, a melody as familiar and comforting as the gentle murmur of conversation that passes between them. It is a simple pleasure, this morning stroll through their Italian garden.
"What do you want to do with your day?" Elliot asks as they reach the house, stepping inside.
"I'd just like to relax with you and Isabella," she smiles, kicking off her sandals and wandering to the couch. "Where's your mother?"
"I think she said she was going to the market," Elliot smiles. "Would you be okay if she stayed here? Because I don't think she's leaving."
"She's very helpful, I appreciate it," Liv smiles. "And I love her."
"Good," Elliot smiles, cuddling up to her on the couch. He catches a glimpse of Ivy as she heads towards the door.
"Ivy, come here!" he calls, and she skips into the room wearing a tiny white bikini and a sunhat. "Where are your clothes?"
She laughs. "I'm going on a boat, Dad. It's the middle of summer."
"I don't care, put some clothes on. Are there boys on this boat?"
