After I got home from being at the beach with Hiro, I called Riley. "Hey, hun. How did it go with Hiro."
"So... He told me more about him. Then he told me that He cares about me a lot... He pretty much told me that he wants to be with me but is waiting until I'm ready." I explained.
Riley squealed loudly, so loud I had to hold the phone away from ear for a second. "Oh my god! Sky! That's amazing."
I giggled. "Wow... I hope you didn't disturb your parents with that squeal."
"Believe me, I didn't." Riley laughed. "Please tell me you told him, like... Yes, you'll be his girl."
"N-Not yet..." I said quietly.
"Girl, you know I completely understand why you're waiting. But, please don't let what Brody did keep you from potentially something good that is literally right in front of you."
"I won't..." I was cut off by a knock on the door. "Hold on." I walked to the door and opened it. "D-Dad..."
"Can I come in, Sky?" Adam asked. He looked like there was something weighing on him.
"I-Is it important?" I asked.
"Very." He nodded.
"Riley, let me call you back." I said as I let my dad in.
"Ok." Riley said, and we hung up. I followed my dad into the living room with this feeling of dread. He never showed up out of the blue like this. He always called, even if it was something urgent. I took a deep breath as I slowly sat down on the couch.
"I don't know how to say this..." Adam huffed as he ran his hand over his mouth and chin.
"Say what?" I asked quietly.
"Y-Your mother is gone, Sky."
My heart literally dropped into the pit of my stomach. "G-Gone? Like she left the facility and no one can find her?"
"No... I mean... She passed..."
"No... No, that's impossible! She was fine when I talked to her... She sounded fine..." I shook my head.
Adam took in a deep breath. "I'm sorry... Sky."
I sat on the couch with my hand on my mouth as I cried. "This isn't happening!" I stood up. "I want to be alone.."
"I don't think that's..."
"I'll call Riley..." I cried. "Just let me be alone right now..."
Adam huffed. "I'll be back in the morning to check on you." He left the house.
I pulled out my phone. I didn't really want to burden anyone with this, but I called someone who would know the pain. "Hey baby, what's up?" Hiro answered.
"H-Hiro... Can you come by?" I tried to sound calm.
"What's wrong? Why are you crying?" Hiro asked with concern.
"I'll explain when you get here..." I said softly.
I could hear his keys jingling and then heard the sound of his corvette starting. "Hiro! Where are you going?" Ruka called.
"Just get the fuck in the car... I don't have time to explain." Hiro shouted.
I took in a deep breath. "I-I'm sorry to call so late..."
"Don't be sorry." Hiro said. I could hear him shifting gears.
"Is she crying?" Ruka asked.
"Sorry baby, you're on bluetooth so he can hear you too." Hiro explained. "And yes..."
"It's fine..."
"What's wrong?" Ruka asked.
"She said she'd explain when I got there." Hiro filled him in.
"You didn't get physically hurt did you?" Ruka asked.
"No." I said softly. "It's not that."
"Ok, we can rule out beating the shit out of someone." Ruka said.
"Good to know." Hiro sounded more focused on driving.
When I heard the car, I opened the door. Hiro practically jogged to the door. I buried my face on his chest once he was in reach. His arms wrapped around me tightly. "So... What happened, hun?" Ruka asked softly.
I took a deep breath. "My mom is gone..."
Hiro pushed his brows together. "G-Gone? How?"
I shook my head. "I don't know... My dad didn't tell me..." I cried.
Ruka let out a deep breath. "Do you like tea?"
"Y-Yeah."
"I'll make some tea. You and Hiro go sit." Ruka said as he walked into the kitchen.
I sat on the couch as I wiped my eyes. "I don't understand... She sounded so Fine... She sounded like she was healthy..."
Hiro rubbed my back. "Maybe she was hiding it..." I met his eyes. "Maybe she didn't want you to worry, so she didn't tell you about any health issues. She was a heavy drinker right?" I gave a nod. "After a while it can be really damaging."
I buried my face in my hands. Hiro pulled me close to him, stroking my hair softly. "In the morning, we should ask her dad what happened." Ruka suggested.
"Agreed." Hiro said softly.
"Have you told your friends yet?" Ruka asked.
"No..." I cried.
"We can do that tomorrow too. They are going to want to be here for you."
"I'm so sorry, baby." Hiro said softly.
I cried for a while and even while I sipped on some tea that Ruka made, I still cried. My phone began to vibrate on the coffee table, but I didn't budge.
"It's Riley." Ruka answered it.
"Hey Riley." Hiro said.
"H-Hiro... Where is Sky?" Riley asked.
"I'm here..." I said softly.
"You've been crying? What happened?" Riley asked.
I buried my face on Hiro's chest. Hiro took the phone from Ruka. "Her mother is gone..."
Riley gasped. "Oh my god..."
"Come on by if you want." Hiro said. "I'm sure she could use all the support she can get right now."
"I'll be there soon." Riley said.
"Is that ok?" Hiro asked.
"She's going to send out an SOS to the rest of the girls." I said softly.
"Hey, that's not a bad thing. They knew how much your mother meant to you." Ruka said.
