Chapter 4

I looked down for a moment. "Fine..." I turned away from him. "You can't keep pushing people away and expect them to stay around." I said.

Brody huffed. "I took the beatings so I could protect my siblings..." I turned slightly, meeting his eyes. "I finally got tired of it and fought back... It got bad and I don't remember much... Something happened to my back... Everything got blurry then I woke up in the hospital."

"W-What happened to your back?" I asked.

Brody folded his arms and looked down. "From my left shoulder going down diagonally to my right side, I have a scar."

My eyes widened as I placed my hand to my mouth. "H-He cut you?"

"Yup." Brody nodded and kept his eyes down.

"I-I'm sorry..." I looked down.

"Don't be... Go back to the group now."

I nodded and slowly walked back towards the cafeteria. I stopped, seeing Ayden limp his way towards the hall. I looked behind me at Brody, who was sitting against the lockers now.

I walked back to Brody and rubbed my arm a little. I slowly sat next to him and pulled my knees to my chest. I wrapped my arms around my legs as Brody looked at me. "Ayden is coming this way." I said quietly.

Brody looked towards Ayden as he slowly made his way down the hall. Ayden stopped and stared at us. "I warned you, Sky... Watch your back, Henderson." He continued on his way.

I watched him for a moment then got to my feet. "Sky..." Brody said softly.

I shook my head. "He meant it... He is going to find a way to really hurt you..."

"Sky." Brody said louder.

"I told you to leave me alone... I told you to stay out of it..." I began breathing heavily.

Brody stepped in front of me placing his hands on my shoulders. "Sky, would you listen to me?" I met his blue eyes. "He won't hurt me." Brody said and moved his hands from my shoulders. "I'm going to be ok."

I shook my head as I looked down. "When he says he's going to do something, he will do it..."

"Sky..."

"I told you to stay out of it!" I snapped and ran down the hallway. I went into the girls bathroom and went into a stall. I leaned back against the wall as I placed my face in my hands. If Ayden hurts Brody, it will be because of me. It will be my fault. Why did I think I wouldn't be phased by Ayden this year?

"Sky?" Riley said softly "Brody said you were in here. What's going on boo?"

"It will be my fault..." I sniffed.

"What's going to be your fault?" Riley asked.

I came out of the stall so I could see her. "Ayden threatened to hurt Brody. He wants Brody to stay away from me." I folded my arms. Riley walked closer to me. "He told me that he warned me... I know Ayden is planning on a way to hurt him... It's my fault..." I wiped my eyes.

"Sky, it's not your fault. Brody doesn't blame you..."

"So! I told him to stay out of it..." I huffed.
