The first rays of morning sunlight crept through the curtains, gently rousing Sophie from her deep slumber. Her tranquil morning was interrupted by a gentle rap at the door. As she stirred, Maida entered the room, her demeanour composed and courteous, saying, "Good morrow, Sophie. I am here to assist thee in preparing for the academy."

Sophie, still nestled within the comforts of her bedding, furrowed her brow in confusion. "The academy?" she echoed softly, her mind slowly piecing together the implications of Maida's statement.

"Aye, 'tis my duty to aid thee in readiness," Maida continued with a reassuring nod. "Once we have broken our fast, I shall accompany thee to Lady Elowen's office. I believe 'tis her place to explain all unto thee regarding thine upcoming endeavors at the academy."

Sophie nodded slowly, the fog of sleep gradually clearing as the reality of Maida's words settled in. She pushed herself up, sitting on the edge of the bed, and took a deep breath to shake off the lingering drowsiness.

"Thank you, Maida. I appreciate your help," Sophie said, managing a smile as she accepted the situation unfolding before her. Maida returned the smile with a gentle nod and proceeded to gather an outfit suitable for the day—a neatly tailored ensemble that signified Sophie's new role as a student.

After dressing, Sophie followed Maida to the dining hall where a modest but nourishing breakfast awaited her. The meal was quiet, Sophie's thoughts occupied with what lay ahead. She pondered about the other realm crossers she might meet and the kind of studies she would undertake.

Once they had finished, Maida led Sophie through the ornate hallways of the manor toward Lady Elowen's office.

Upon reaching the office, Maida knocked gently on the massive oak door. "Lady Elowen, we are here," she announced respectfully. The door swung open, revealing Lady Elowen seated behind a large, ancient desk that was littered with scrolls and books.

"Sophie, come in, please," Lady Elowen invited, her voice both warm and authoritative. Sophie entered, her heart beating a tad faster as she approached the desk. "Have a seat, dear," Lady Elowen gestured to a chair across from her.

Sophie took a seat across from Lady Elowen, who began to explain the decision regarding Sophie's immediate future at the academy.

"Sophie, after consulting with the realm crosser advisor here at the manor, we have decided that you are well-prepared to commence your education at the academy without the preliminary residential orientation that is customary for most new realm crossers," Lady Elowen stated clearly.

She continued, "Usually, new arrivals need significant guidance in adapting to our ways of living and learning. However, given your background and demonstrated capabilities, we believe you are ready to integrate directly into the academy's more rigorous academic environment."

"Lady Elowen, I appreciate your faith in my capabilities. As you should know, I am 24 years old and have already completed my bachelor's degree. I was actually continuing my education towards a master's degree in London—pursuing my grandfather's dream for me—when I accidentally passed through the portal," Sophie explained.

Lady Elowen nodded, taking in Sophie's explanation with an understanding smile. "Indeed, that further supports our decision. Your academic and personal maturity are assets that will serve you well at the academy."

Lady Elowen leaned back in her chair, regarding Sophie with a thoughtful expression as she explained the unique educational framework of the academy. "In Navaria, the academy is open to realm crossers of all ages. It's a place where individual capacities are tested and honed, regardless of one's stage in life. Upon entry, each student undergoes assessments to gauge their abilities and potential, which then guide the customisation of their curriculum."

Lady Elowen paused, ensuring Sophie was following along. "Many who come to the academy are at what you might call a 'quarter-life crisis' on Earth, individuals in their early 20's to early 30's. It's a time when individuals seek to redefine their paths and explore new possibilities. Here in Navaria, we offer that chance—the opportunity to explore and expand one's horizons beyond the conventional, without the limitations often imposed by society or even by one's self."

Sophie listened intently, absorbing the profound implications of what the academy represented. It was not just an institution for learning; it was a catalyst for transformation.

Lady Elowen smiled slightly, adding, "That's why the academy is such a vital part of our culture here. It's not about age or background; it's about desire and capacity for growth. Here, there are no limits to what you can achieve, especially as we do not rely on arcane magic for these personal developments. Instead, we focus on nurturing innate talents and abilities, helping each individual to shine in their own right."

"However," Lady Elowen added, "you will remain under the guardianship of House Gardwyn for the time being. This is standard until you decide if you wish to affiliate with a different house or continue with us, depending on where you feel your path should lead."

Sophie felt reassured, knowing she had some control over her future affiliations while still having a strong support system in place. "Thank you, Lady Elowen. I am eager to start at the academy and am grateful for the support of House Gardwyn during this transition," Sophie responded with genuine gratitude.
