Leah's Pov
As soon as we walked into the changing rooms, I knew I had missed my chance. I just had a couple hours on the bus to tell Isla about the pressure weighing on me, and I had fallen asleep. As we walked to the changing room, I couldn't help but feel lost as to what to do. I had just told Isla it was all right and that it could wait. But could it?. I don't know if I could play the game with this weighing on me.
Isla: "Leah."
I just need to tell Isla I'm sure she won't be upset, and I don't know if I will be able to give it my all if this is constantly stuck in the back of my mind.
Isla: "Leah"
Leah: "Yeah," I say as I look up to her
Isla: "I just said your name twice. Are you alright?"
Leah: "Yeah, I'm just thinking about the game."
Isla: "You know you can talk to me." she says as she sits next to me, putting my hands in hers on her lap.
Leah: "Yeah, I know."
Isla: "Alright, let's go check out the pitch."
Leah: "Okay." I say as we walk out, our arms linked onto the field.
Isla leads me out onto the pitch and towards a group of girls consisting of Katie, Caitlin, Steph and Kyra.
Katie: "Are you hoping to get some minutes today, Isla.
Isla: "Yeah, I know I am getting some."
Katie: "As cocky as ever."
Isla: "I may not be in the starting eleven, but surely after the second half."
Steph: "Yeah, I'm sure they will put you on in the second half; you have proven yourself at training."
Suddenly, Katie turned around and started to wave frantically at someone from Aston Villa. I squint my eyes to try and make out who it is until I hear Katie screaming their name.
Katie: "Joooorrddddaaannn." she says as she runs up towards her, jumping on her.
This is the person I was worried about. I turn to Isla and put my hands on her shoulder as I look at her, but no words are coming out as Jordan and Katie get closer and closer to our group.
Leah: "Uhhhhh, Isla, I know Jordan."
Isla: "Yeah, I know she used to play at Arsenal."
Leah: "Yeah, but Jordan, she's.... She's my ex-girlfriend." I say, my voice barely above a whisper. I stare into Isla's eyes with worry as to what her answer is, but she doesn't move or say anything. She just stares towards Jordan. Have I ruined what we have because I didn't have this conversation earlier? All I could think about was what Isla was thinking. I was consumed by my own doubt as I watched Jordan walk closer and closer.
Jordan: "Hey, Leah."
Leah: "Hey, Jordan, how are you?"
Jordan: "I'm good, how are you?.
Leah: "That's good; yeah, I'm good. This is Isla, by the way. She just joined from Manchester City."
Jordan: "Nice to meet you, Isla. That's also a nice number. I didn't realise you were a fan of mine," she says with a smirk.
Isla: "Well, Jordan," Isla quipped, her voice dripping with sarcasm, "I figured since you're no longer wearing the number 8, someone had to step up and do it justice." which got some laughs from the other girls around us which I was thankful for as it helped to slice the tension I was feeling.
