Chapter 28 Willow’s POV:

Me and Sammi enter the coffee shop and take a seat in a booth by the window, overlooking the street. Sammi picks up a menu, humming quietly with a smile on her face. I study a menu too, looking for the one drink I crave.

“Yay! Strawberry milkshake!” Sammi cheers triumphantly. I look up at her surprised.

“You must have read my mind!” I laugh, smiling at Sammi.

She meets my eyes over the menu and a bright smile lights up her face. “I’m glad someone loves it as much as me! Jinxx thinks it’s weird still liking the stuff at my age.”

I laugh with Sammi. It’s so easy being around her. A blonde haired waitress comes over wearing a white apron and carrying a small white note pad. She smiles at us cheerfully and asks us to place our orders. Sammi orders two milkshakes with a wink at me.

Once the waitress has gone Sammi turns her attention on me. “So how has your time in LA been so far? I know you’ve been here what, eight hours? What are your first impressions of the place?”

“It’s really different from England and I think that’s what I’m feeling most at the minute. I keep comparing everything to England, the weather, the houses, the views.” I say with a small laugh. “Everything feels so bright here in comparison.”

Sammi laughs slightly. “The weather in England isn’t as good as it is here that’s for sure! I was born in Northampton in England so I am familiar with that part of the world, even though I was raised in Los Angeles.”

My eyes widen slightly. This is news to me. “You were born in Northampton?” I ask her.

“Yep.” She smiles. “Is that were you come from?”

“I’m from the South West so it’s slightly different.” I say, smiling back. “I always thought you were born in America.”

“Nope. I didn’t spend much of my life in England though.” She replies. Our drinks arrive then and we both take a sip of them. Sammi puts her cup down and speaks again. “So what do you think of Andy’s place?”

An image of the engagement ring surfaces in my mind. I gulp involuntarily. To my horror Sammi notices and her expression turns slightly worried.

“Willow is something wrong?” She asks, leaning forward. To my surprise she takes both my hands in hers.

I cough, to try to clear my choked throat, before I speak. “No! Andy’s place is amazing.” I say, trying for a smile.

Sammi frowns slightly. “I expected you to be more excited about it than that.” She says. “Is everything ok? You can tell me anything, I’ll keep it between me and you.”

Sammi squeezes my hands comfortingly and gives me a reassuring smile. I debate whether or not to tell Sammi. It’s not that I don’t trust her, I do even though I’ve known her about an hour, I just don’t know if I should mention it. Sammi might know if Andy was planning to propose to Juliet though… This thought makes my decision for me.

“Last night, before we went to bed and Andy was showing Zack his room, I was looking around the bedroom. I know I shouldn’t have done what I did but I looked through the dresser.” I say quietly, my eyes not leaving Sammi’s. I take a deep breath before continuing. “Inside one of the drawers I found an engagement ring.”
