Chapter 7 Andy’s pov:
I hear a twig snap and my eyes wander around the park looking for the source of the sound. I thought we were alone. My eyes rest on a figure not far away from us. She looks petrified. The guys have all stopped walking and trying to push each other into bushes to look at the figure too.
“I’m going to see if she’s ok.” I say to the guys and they all nod in agreement. I can’t explain why but I feel drawn to this girl. I trudge across the grass to where she’s standing, but when she sees me coming she backs away. Ok I may look dark and scary but I don’t have any makeup on. Plus she’s dressed in black herself!
Her expression has gone from one of pure fear to one of absolute mortification. What the hell? It’s then I notice the shirt. She’s a fan. I can’t help but smile a little. I look up to meet her eyes and I lose the smile. She’s covered in cuts and bruises.
I begin to quicken my pace slightly, feeling the urge to comfort her. I can tell she’s hurting.
Before I can reach her she’s off running. I’ve never been abandoned by a fan before. Normally they scream at me and I can’t get rid of them, not that I mind that much. It’s what I’ve always dreamed of.
I set off after her. She’s out of the park and running down the street. She disappears around a corner and I push myself faster. I should have let her go but for some unexplainable reason I feel drawn to her. Yep, now I know I’m crazy. I’m chasing a girl who clearly doesn’t want me anywhere near her down streets. I could get arrested; people might think I’m harassing her. I think you can get arrested for that in England. Oh well.
I get around the corner and the sight before me makes me stop in my tracks. She’s disappeared. I look around, searching alleys and the next street along. She’s nowhere. I wait for a few minutes hoping she’ll come around a corner. When she doesn’t my heart sinks.
I give the street one last look before I head back to my band mates. When I get back to the park I see them lounging on the grass, soaking up the sun. Ash actually needs the sunglasses for once. They look surprised to see me alone.
“Where is she?” CC asks looking up at me. I sink down next to him and sigh.
“She ran off.” I say dejected. I hear murmurs in response from my relaxed friends. For some reason this angers me. “Aren’t you worried about her? Didn’t you see her face?”
Jake sits up from his reclined position. The others continue to lie back, eyes closed. “Listen Andy, I know you feel like you need to save everyone, but this girl obviously didn’t want your help. She ran away from you, I don’t think that means she’s eager to talk to you. Just move on okay? She can look after herself; she didn’t look much younger than us. You’re not going to see her again, there’s nothing you can do.” Jake says. It sounds reasonable but I can’t help but feel like there’s more to this girl than they make out. I can’t explain why but I need to see her again. It’s just a feeling I have.
“She was a fan Jake.” I sigh not wanting to have this conversation anymore. They just don’t understand.
“We can’t help everyone.” Jake replies sadly. I know Jake and the rest of our band love the fans as much as me and to hear that girl was a fan saddens them.
“That sucks.” Jinxx says. I nod. “She might be at the gig tonight if you’re lucky.”
Hope stirs inside me at his words. I’ll have to scan the crowd for her tonight. But even if she’s in the crowd it doesn’t mean I’m necessarily going to be able to talk to her. The hope dies down slightly, realisation setting in. Even if I do get a chance to talk to her she’ll only run away again. I don’t know why it bothers me so much, she may be a fan but I don’t know her.
