Camp has been great.
Has.
Just two days ago Thalia’s Pine Tree got poisoned. It was on May twenty ninth that it got poisoned. Now after that I decided to have the Tomb Scorpion guard the tree, and it does a wonderful job. I don’t know why people have been giving dirty looks for it, they don’t want to start a night watch and the Tomb Scorpion doesn't need to sleep, eat or anything!
“What’s the matter Y/N?” Chiron asked as she wheeled beside me, I was sitting on the porch of the Big House.
“All these demigoddesses, they reject any help I try to offer.” I complained to her. “Only accept me having Tomby guard the tree at night because I gave an ultimatum.”
Chiron nodded, “They are headstrong and recent events make them cautious.”
“I’m just trying to help.” I told Chiron, “Some of them understand that, well atleast one or two do I hope.”
“I’m sure they do my boy, but they are not used to getting help from males and your powers are unknown to them.” Chiron reasoned. “Perhaps you should head home until this all blows over.”
I sighed, Chiron was once again suggesting I go home. It’s not that I don’t want to, but Viktoriya hasn’t been answering my calls which means she’s very busy. Only giving me short messages and leaving voicemails.
“I can’t Chiron.” I told her as I remembered why I can’t.
While the situation for Viktoriya is a supporting reason and Chiron understands it. In truth there is a completely different reason. I think Chiron suspects as much. She always seems to know these things, yet never presses them. Just a warm motherly smile that tries to reassure you that you’re safe.
Signa flew down and landed on the railing, I stared at her as I thought, before finally speaking up, “Chiron… can I tell you a secret?”
“Tell me anything and I will keep it.” She reassured me.
“I… it’s in my room.” I told her as I got up and Signa hopped onto my shoulder.
We went into the Big House, Chiron’s wheelchair gently rolling against the wooden flooring. Eventually we reached my room where I shut the door behind Chiron. Going over to my backpack that I put under my bed I unzipped it and pulled the Tome of Fates out.
“Do you know of this book?” I asked her, only to look up and see her staring at the Tome with her mouth agape. “You do.”
Chiron nodded, fixing her expression. “That is the Tome of Fates, last in possession of Alastor Veileder, your father.”
“Yes, it shows me things. Though I still don’t quite understand how to properly use it.” I said as I sat on my bed cross legged and opened the book “I was experimenting with it one night, when I asked it to show me something and it didn’t work until I asked for Camp Half-Blood.”
“What did it show you?” Chiron asked, her expression serious.
“Show me Camp Half-Blood.” I asked the book in a clear voice.
The book was blank for a moment until slowly it started to change. It showed camp or well from beside Thalia’s Pine Tree and behind it was the camp. Everything seemed normal until you looked closer. The cabins looked fragmented with some parts missing and the bonfire only embers, but what got attention was the face that loomed in the sky over Camp Half-Blood. It was only vaguely human, but full of cruelty. Chiron stared at the image, her eyes taking in every detail as her face continued to grow more and more grim.
“This is troubling, when did you see this?” Chiron asked.
“The night before Thalia’s tree got poisoned, May twenty ninth.” I answered. “I wanted to bring it to your attention, but I was scared my father’s book would be taken from me…”
“Nothing will be taken from you.” Chiron reassured me, “But I am glad you brought this to my attention, though I am afraid we can not do much about it now. It is not clear what any of this means other than what we already knew.”
“And what's that?” I asked her.
“That the Titan Queens sha-” Chiron was saying before looking down at the book. “It's changing.”
Looking down I see that the book is in fact changing, there was a wedding dress then two bulls in front of a pine tree.
“Two bulls?” I stated, confused as to what it could mean.
“That looks to be Thalia’s tree.” Chiron muttered.
“This book from what I know shows what has been and what is to come.” I told Chiron, maybe this is an attack that will happen, though it isn't known when it will happen.
“All we can do is help prepare for it.” Chiron finally said as she leaned back in her wheelchair. “Keep an eye on this book, even if it is just you knowing what is to come, one person knowing can make all the difference.”
“Right.” I nodded as I looked down at the Tome of Fates. On my shoulder Signa let out a soft croak. “I’ll let you know of any troubling things.”
Chiron nodded, but since I was focused on the book I didn’t notice the look she was giving me. A look that was a mix of sadness and regret. Only Signa noticed her opening her mouth yet closing it without saying anything.
I heard Chiron wheel out of the room but only closed the Tome of Fates and put it back into my backpack. I then grabbed Liber Necris and started flipping through its pages. I learned of what Tomby was, he was a tomb scorpion. Which is apparently a powerful creation of the Mortuary Cult. The Mortuary Cult is a religious faction of ancient Nehekhara created during the reign of Settra, and sustained by the successive Priest Kings…
“Signa what exactly was father all involved with?” I sighed as I still barely understood Liber Necris or the Tome of Fates. I then looked out the window, might as well try to get Clarisse to put more guards up, or let Tomby do a 24/7 guard. Though that thought only put a sigh through my lips.
