"I'm never trusting you again!"
Two days passed at hindi pa rin maka-move on si Scott sa nangyari. We accidentally met each other when I went to Brent upang magpalamig. We have a ten-minute break from rehearsals.
OA niya akong dinuro.
"You taught my daughter how to lie!"
Natagpuan namin si Arin na papunta na sa elevator. Naabutan namin siya bago iyon sumara kaya wala namang nangyari. I told her to not tell her father because I know this is going to happen.
But I guess... the blood's thicker than the devil.
Sumulyap ako sa aking relo.
"Yup. My break is done." Tumayo ako to throw my plastic cup into the bin. Hindi ko siya pinansin at dumiretso na sa labas.
"Rhys, you fucker! Come back here!"
Hindi na ako dumaan pa sa kung saan dahil totoo namang tapos na ang break ko. I just went straight back to the gymnasium.
We're doing the rehearsals on stage since 4 PM. Karamihan sa mga estudyante ay may klase pa ng ganoong oras kaya kami-kami lang ang nandoon. I was very comfortable.
Or... was I... wrong?
I breathed in when I saw couple of students sitting on the bleachers. Nakatanaw sila sa stage, kung saan nandoon ang banda.
For god's sake...
Umakyat ako ng stage nang naiirita. Napakamot ng ulo si June nang masulyapan ang mga nanonood.
"Hindi ba pwedeng palabasin ang mga iyan?" Mahinang aniya.
Napangiwi lang si Derwick.
"Hayaan niyo na." He said like they're not shouting things. "Besides... if you can't focus with that small audience, how can you play tomorrow?"
We proceeded to go for another take. Bukas na ang performance at hindi pa rin alam kung saan ang venue o kung anong event ang tutugtugan. The only detail given is the song—Mundo by IV of Spades.
I don't know the chords that well, but I know the song. Madali lang din naman akong turuan and my memory's a god. That shouldn't be a problem to me.
In the middle of Derwick's singing, and god, okay, even before that... pasulyap-sulyap ako kay Maelle.
Aside that... she looks good with that messy bun and graphic oversized shirt which exposes her left shoulder... napansin kong hindi maganda ang lagay ng boses niya. The first rehearsals, medyo gumagaralgal ito, but she still managed to deliver.
Since we have two vocalists, nahati ang parts. The first verse is Derwick's, the second one's on Maelle. And the second that she hit the chorus, we stopped playing. She paused while singing.
I knew it.
Napatingin kaming lahat sa kaniya.
"Anong problema?" Tanong ni Derwick sabay hawak sa siko niya.
She licked her lips.
"I think my voice is strained. I can't start the falsetto."
My eyes remained on her. Lumunok siya, mukhang masakit ang lalalmunan. Agad na kumilos ang paa ko upang kumuha ng isang bottled water.
What the hell, Rhys?! What the hell!
"Here..." I just found myself handing it to her.
Damn it!
"Thanks." She opened it and drink immediately.
Hwang reached us out.
"Are you okay?"
