Chapter 50

I stared at her name for quite some time. If it's true that the bad wind could make me go blind... baka hindi na ako nakakakita ngayon.

Her name is exquisite. The way it was engraved in the tile... it reflected the real her. Parang sa isang sandali, mukha niya talaga mismo ang nakikita ko.

Suminghap ako. Pinanood ko ang mga dahon na malaglag sa kaniyang lapida. Several of them were dried, the rest were fresh. Mahirap isipin na ilang beses na ako ritong nanggaling habang tinatanggal ang mga iyon—wherein fact, she could just simply do it herself.

"Hmm... looks like... someone's reminiscing."

Hindi ako gumalaw sa pwesto ko. I know that voice. Hindi na ako nag-abalang tumingin pa.

"But you know... it felt really weird."

Kariza's eyes narrowed down to her grave. How weird it is to say that without referring to a ghost or some fictional stories.

"It felt really weird to see my name here..." Mapait siyang ngumiti. "I bet it was hard for you too, back then. To mourn for me... to... wish for me to come back. Kasi... paano mo nga ba bubuhayin ang isang taong patay na?"

Ngayon na lang ulit kami nagkita pagkatapos naming makabalik galing sa Kaliraya. I have been so busy then and now. Plus, I can't see any reasons why I should do so.

I licked my lips.

"What are you doing here?"

"I..." Tumikhim ako. "I went to check my grandfather's lot here. I just... came across yours..."

"Oh, I-I'm so sorry. How is he?"

"Responding. But not that good."

Nagdedeliryo na siya, which is all we know... a bad sign. Mahirap tanggapin. And I have no plans on doing that.

Siguro... mas ayos kung... hahayaan ko ang sarili ko na isiping... may sakit lang siya. Ganoon na lang muna. Unti-unti... because... I don't want to feel the same exact sorrow I have been through with her.

"My father's in the custody just today." Aniya. "Kaya... naisipan kong... dumaan to see his object of foolishness. Mommy said he was the one who ordered this. Funny, right?"

"That's good..."

"It's okay. You don't have to pretend like you care for me."

She laughed when I did not answer.

I really don't... but in the past, my care for her was so much. Mahirap kalimutan iyon.

"Have you found her?"

"No..." How I wish.

"She is really pretty. I stalked her..."

"She is."

"Oh, I felt like it was a compliment for me. We look like each other!"

"At first glance... at first moments... yes." Sagot ko. "But only after days... I can't see your face in her. Her proportion has distinctive measurements."

She smiled bitterly. I can see that she was in pain upon realizing what I said.

I didn't want to hurt anybody, honestly. But if it's with the truth... I can't do anything about it. They are just meant to be hurt, that's plainly it.

"To be completely honest with you, Rhys, hindi ko pa rin maintindihan kung bakit... ganoon kabilis ang lahat para sa'yo."

"Ang alin?"

"Moving on from me?"

I looked down. Pinigilan kong matawa nang pagak.

She doesn't know what she's saying.
