I never expected to be placed in the Nexus for my afterlife. Then again, I never truly understood the definition of the afterlife other than the lessons taught to me for catechism when I was in nursery school. Still, I'm making the most of the situation given that the boy that was my only friend is also in the Nexus with me. But with him expressing his true feelings for me when a certain Brazilian beauty doesn't like to share what she claims to be hers, I have to be careful and not start any unwanted drama while learning to live my new life without feeling guilty or the ghosts of the past haunting me.

My family never gave my brother a fair chance in life with him being the son of a rapist and all. And the more that my family continued to discredit him, the angrier that I am knowing that my family has a lot of dirty secrets while claiming to be the flawless "Chamblee Diamond Standard" that my father expects everyone to be. Well, that's not going to cut it for me, not when Mrs. Simmons and the other former workers instilling common sense into me. And as long as my family is lost in their wicked games, it's all the more reason for me to be sent away to find my own path in life. As the old saying goes, what's done in the dark always comes to the light.

I knew that Hezekiah would soon be in the Nexus with me, never mind that I never expected to see him again even when I was newly dead for over two years. Anyway, the brief friendship that we shared was one that had turned a lot of heads back on Earth, but I always wanted something more than that. And now that he's here, it'll be more the reason to fight to win 'Kiah's heart despite what Catalina thinks. In a way, there's something more than I want to know about the Brazilian beauty with a jealous and possessive streak as long as the I-95 corridor. One way or another, the others and I are going to find out.
