Rosalia's POV

Meanwhile, the Pleasantville neighborhood of the Nexus...

That pipsqueak of a runt thinks that I'm playing a game on him.

No matter.

Just because they're in Winterhaven under protection doesn't mean that I'm going to make sure that I'm going to either get what's mine or go back to hell trying. And with my special treat that I've sent them, I'm going to make it clear to Chance that I always get what I want. He can choose to be mine, or enjoy his last sweet moment with that brat while awake.

I'm Rosalia Domingue, the Brazilian femme fatale, and no one will ever forget my name!

Hezekiah's POV

Back in Winterhaven...

"Hezekiah?"

I snapped out of my train of thought to see Chance staring at me with a look of concern on his face. "You okay?" he asked me.

I nodded, turning away from the snowman that I was currently making. "My mind's been all in a bit of a mess, after everything that happened," I replied. "You know, I never knew how things came out since coming here to the Nexus since I died: reuniting with you, meeting good friends, finally coming to grips with being the reject of a family who valued appearances and status over everything else, being the son of a rapist and learning to accept that fact that it's not my fault. But the one thing that stood out from them all was when I feel more like myself whenever you and I are together. Chance, I meant what I said during therapy. There was never a moment when I never thought about you since you were killed. Since that day, I had to forge on during my senior year at Allendale Christian Academy while hating my parents who thought that you and I were never meant to meet. I hated them as much as I hated the teachers and students who thought the same."

"I believe you," Chance told me gently, coming close to wipe a few snowflakes off my face. "You know something? The moment that you and I came face to face during freshman year was when I felt a bit of magic spark within me. I saw you alone and being so closed off from so many people that I knew that whatever God had created led me to you."

"Chance, did you ever see me on AUTV when you watched me?" I couldn't help but ask.

He nodded. "I did. And I saw you being killed by your parents just as they did when you were in the current timeline. That was when I knew that I couldn't watch AUTV anymore because I knew that no one would even care that you died."

"That's why you don't want me to watch anything regarding my family," I deduced.

"Yeah. I believe that you and I need to be more in tune with being in the moment. It's even more so for you because your family dictated every move that you make and planned everything even though they wished for you to die. In my book, they only wanted you to be alive enough to do what's needed and not be able to do what you wanted- the things that are deemed a 'distraction' in their eyes," Chance replied as we returned to Landon's place, the seraphs who were playing watchdog. "Hezekiah, you have so much talent and grace, yet everyone back on Earth wanted you to use it for their benefits while keeping you from your true potential. You gave them all of you, but they wanted so much more. In their eyes, it's like this: the more you give, the more that they'll expect you to give. Much given, much required- but there's no endgame for you because they'll always want more."

"How true," I agreed as we stepped inside and saw Landon glaring at a pink box that he held in his hand. "What's up?"

"This came for you, Hezekiah," the older man said. "It's from Domingue."

My stomach dropped as I grabbed the note that was on top of the pink box. "What does she want now?" I asked before beginning to read the letter.

Here's a sweet treat that I couldn't help but make as I thought of you, Chamblee.
Let's be friends and make peace. I promise that you'll feel blissfully on air after one bite of my desserts. It's a killer dessert, one that I hope you'll never forget.
-Rosalia

I gave the letter to Chance as I tentatively opened the box to find a dozen chocolate cupcakes topped with red frosting. "Cupcakes?" I said, my face warped in confusion. "Really?"

"I don't like this," Landon said as the seraphim guards came inside. "I really don't like this. I wouldn't eat them if I were you, boys. If I know better-"

"STEP AWAY FROM THOSE CUPCAKES!" the booming voices of the God and Lucifer rang through the house as they emerged from their respective gold and red lights with the archangels, arch-demons, Salgiel, and Catia following suit.

"What's going on?!" Chance said, grabbing my hand.

God grabbed the cupcakes from Landon and tossed them into the roaring fireplace before a rancid smell filled the room and a blood-curdling scream soon rang throughout the living room.

"Ugh," I winced at the smell before Catia led me outside for fresh air. "What the hell was that?!"

"It's what we all thought," the female cherub repiled seriously, her eyes lit in anger. "Domingue sent those cupcakes as a way to knock you into an eternal slumber. Thank goodness that one of the seraphims back in Pleasantville had kept watch over her and suspected that this was going to happen."

I gasped. "You mean-"

"Yep, she's still hopped on revenge as we speak," Catia cut me off "This changes everything for you and Chance, Hezekiah, since Domingue still doesn't believe in you boys being fated soulmates."

I might've guessed. Even when we're in Winterhaven, Chance and I would never get a moment's peace. "What happens now?" I asked, my anxiety rising to new levels. "I mean, who can say what can happen now that the Nexus isn't as safe as I thought?"

"It IS a safe haven, Hezekiah," Catia told me fiercely. "We just got a nasty rarity in the form of a condemned woman scorned by love and envy, chasing after something she can never have. Now that she's trying to place you and maybe Chance into a coma, we know that all the angels, demons, cherubs, seraphims, demonic spawns and spirts, and everyone in the afterlife agree that we can't let her make any more moves."

I nodded as she led me inside. "But that doesn't tell me what we need to do," I replied. "Right now, Rosalia still wants me gone or away from Chance. And after coming here and finally making things official with him, I know that I can't allow that to happen."

"We know," Abaddon replied as he and his twin brother came to join us. "God and Lucifer got together for the past couple of days and they both came to a decision, one that will finally seal the deal for you and Chance for good."

"What's that?" I asked as I soon saw the arrivals of Eva, Carlton, Colton, Alvin, and Damon coming from out of nowhere (courtesy of God Himself).

I saw Chance hold up a familiar ring box as he approached me. "God and Lucifer have arranged for us to marry," he said, his voice firm yet light as if starstruck by the announcement. "They gave you and I both rings that have been blessed by them. Hezekiah, we need to make this happen."

Chance and I are to marry each other?! What even is my life anymore?!

Will Hezekiah say "I do" or "I don't?!" Don't even think about getting comfortable yet, folks! All will be made clear in the next chapter! I know you're going to dig this!
