"You know, you really did do an outstanding job outside of the mansion as well." Arthur says as we drive down the streets of Seattle. "It reminds me of a photo I once saw in a realtor's magazine."
"That was all Peterson." I said. "I'm too scared of heights to go up a ladder."
"I'm talking about the flowers My Dear. I can't remember the last time we've had flowers at the mansion. It's been far too long."
Like eighty years too long?
"I just hope they don't die too quickly." I noted. "It's been getting colder each day, I wouldn't be surprised if it snowed already."
"I think they should be fine." He says, keeping his eyes glued to the road and his unoccupied hand resting under his nose.
I wonder what was on his mind that is making him work double time. Was this friend someone I had to worry about as well?
"If you don't mind me asking, who exactly is this friend of yours? Is she a vampire as well?"
"No, but she has lived a very long time in her mysterious magical ways." He starts. "She goes by the name Alina of the Bayou. I called her for some clarity when it comes to our situation, and... maybe she could provide us with something to break the bond."
My heart broke at the thought of him still wanting to break the bond. I mean, it is the goal he wanted to do, but I didn't want to do it so soon.
"You know, once the bond breaks, you'll be able to think freely for yourself." He adds. "Not constantly feel the pain and the separation anxiety. It's good news, don't you think?"
Only if you think so I guess.
"Yeah. Good."
I turn my head towards the window as I watch the brightly lit signs pass by in silence. My eyes stung so badly from how much I cried today, I was shocked that they were starting to grow misty again.
There was no hiding the disappointment I felt deep in my bones, but I couldn't let him see that on my face. I already felt foolish for believing he could give me a chance at love. I just simply hate the fact that it won't sink in already.
Why is it so hard to accept it?
By the time we had reached a parking structure under a wooden pier, we continued the rest of the way on foot towards the dark streets of Pioneer Square.
"Stay close and watch your step." He warns. "It's a bit dark to see even with the street lights on."
He was right. Judging from the huge dark clouds looming over the moon, I'm guessing it's going to rain heavily later tonight-- if not any moment now.
"If you're that scared of the dark, you can always hold my hand." I joke.
No emotion or response; but when I looked at his eyes that were locked straight down our path, I suddenly felt a tiny flutter in my chest. Almost as if I were the one holding back a chuckle.
What the hell was this? Was this what he meant from earlier? Was this from the bond's doing? I... I felt his emotions!
I couldn't help but smile knowing that I was able to take a glimpse of his true thoughts.
So I pressed even harder for a reaction.
"You know it was funny Arthur so shut up okay?" I roll my eyes. "You know, I think it would help to laugh for once if you got rid of that stick up your ass."
"Hah." He smirks in my direction. "Happy?"
Very now knowing that grin is genuine.
"You could do better." I smile back.
