After the night I was attacked at the mansion, Peterson thought it would be a good idea to teach me self-defense as a way to both keep me prepared and healthy. When the day came where he would no longer take it easy on me, he also didn't hold back to provoke the fear I would feel.
I remember his grasp wrapping so tight around my neck, staring up at me with a cocky fanged smile.
"It— hurts." I choke.
"Dinnae waste yer breath." He warns. "The killer's grip will be much more bowfin than mine. Noo, ignore the pain and focus on your escape. You have three seconds to make yer move before I bite. Remember what I taught you. Strike me noo!"
***
It was a brutal way to train, but now more than ever do I thank him for the lessons. Instead of trying to pry her fingers of my neck like my body is pleading for me to do, I follow my mind's engrained steps.
Cross my right arm over both of hers.Leaned my body with my arm to add more force. Brace myself for any pain about to come.Strike.
I swung my elbow against her face, hitting harder each time as my eyes started to see spots.
Let!
Me!
Go!
I cry out against the last final strike, followed by a sharp pain from the end of my elbow and an awful crunch sound from her nose.
"AUGH!"
The maid stumbles back, holding onto her face to reveal the opening at her chest.
That's it! Now, fuck off!
I put full force into my leg as my foot met her weak spot. When she had lost balance from the sudden hard kick, it caused her to fall back onto the uneven concrete— her head following after.
I don't think she was unconscious just yet, but she was certainly taking her time getting back up on her feet.
Or tricking me into getting close to her.
"Hey!" A male actor calls out. "Someone back there?!"
Shit!
I quickly take out my phone into my trembling hands, turning on the flashlight to reveal the face of my killer.
Her mask must've clipped off during the fall— because when I finally got to see her swollen face, I easily recognized her right away.
"Dahlia!" I wheezed.
The sound of the iron gate behind me screeched against the uneven path, pulling my gaze away so when I turned back, she was gone again.
"Fuck— ah!" I yelped at the sharp pain from my elbow.
Trying to determine it's level of severity, it hurt to lift, bend, or even keep it close by my side. Worst part about it is that it was bruised and...
Was it supposed to look like that? I panic.
"Hey!" An actor held up a flash light in my direction. "You can't be back here! This is for VIP only!"
"I- I know!" A whimper escapes me. "I got lost and— and I got attacked!"
"Attacked?" The member moves the flashlight to the ground. "By who? Did you see the person?"
Fuck. If I tell him, Dahlia might start something. If I don't, there's a chance she'll leave everyone be.
But what if she does something regardless?
"I... I didn't..." I choked. "Please, I just need an exit—."
"Rosalie!"
A voice calls out. My lover's voice.
"Th-that's my boyfriend!" I pleaded to the actor. "I need to leave, please!."
"Not until you tell me what's going on." He said in a calm manner. "Besides, you're injured. You need medical attention."
Footsteps rushed over towards the other gate, a loud slam from the door announcing Arthur's arrival.
"Rose..." He pants, nearly running me as I wrap myself in his arms.
"Arthur..."
That's when I found myself crumbling all over again.
All of this was my fault. I let myself become selfish for ten minutes and I nearly died because of it.
"Arthur, I'm— I'm so sorry." I blubbered. "I'm sorry I should've listened..."
"No, no. Shh..." he coos. "It's okay. It's okay. I'm here. Let's get out of here okay?"
"She was here." I said through my hiccups. "Dahlia— She attacked me—."
"I know Baby, I know." He kisses my forehead. "Let's get you somewhere safe."
I followed him him out where he came from while the actor shouted at us for answers. Julia was more than happy to stay behind and help him "reconsider" his report while Ryan escorted us back to the resort with haste.
Every time I was accidentally bumped into from the crowd, the more painful my injury became. It felt like such an eternity just to get back to the main gates of the park!
"We're almost there Baby." Arthur reassures me. "We just need to get to the downtown area and you'll be safe again."
Now I was the one who couldn't keep my eyes off of anything around me.
I wasn't afraid of her attacking me again but more so afraid of her rage to attack Arthur or other innocent people. An attack that could've been prevented if I had just stayed home.
"We should've never come here." I winced. "Your instincts were right, something was wrong and—."
"My love, let's not talk about it now." He says through his fanged teeth. "You're hurt and we need to get you to the hotel."
I hesitate to continue talking from here on out.
While he sounded and calm and composed, he was very angry. Eyes shimmering red under his ocean blue eyes.
All I could do was remain quiet. Let him do the talking and hope that by the time we get back to our safe haven, we'll both be able to talk.
