Suddenly I was alone, panic surging through me when he didn't answer at the sound of his name. Next thing I heard was the sound of a car, screeching away from the mansion and down the long driveway.

Was that him?!

I race down the attic stairs towards the spiral staircase, finding Anne rushing up to find me.

"Anne!" I panic. "A-Arthur's gone! I- I don't— I don't know where he's going!"

"Gonny no dae that!"

Peterson walks from the reception room towards the south lobby, holding his head as if he couldn't believe what he was hearing. "Ye an Eejit!"

"What is going on?!"

Anne gently hushes me, carefully listening to the conversation when her eyes widened from the conversation.

"He's going to break the bond on his own. That he... he's going to feed on someone else..."

That's when I felt my heart completely break into little pieces.

He really doesn't want me at all...

and now that's he's so far away, I can't even beg for him to stop.

I was that much trouble for him.

Fucking asshole!

"Will you shut yer puss and listen to wot I'm sayin'?!"

Peterson then takes off, assuming he's going to catch up to him.

"He'll bring 'im back love." Anne brings my face into her hands, trying to keep my attention on her when I can barely even focus.

There was so much anger and pain going through my veins; I was facing another moment of betrayal and I could think about was the people in my life who did the same.

My father.

My family.

My partners.

My mother.

Not again... I panic. Not another person I love.

He wants to end this. Fine. We're ending this shit. I refuse to go through another heartbreak.

"Fine." I angrily remove my face from Anne's delicate hands. "Fine, just fine! Fucking fine!"

I rush up to my room with my painful ankle, grabbing the paper bag that contained everything I needed for the ritual.

He can do whatever the fuck he wants! I don't want him anymore! He can go die under the sun for all I care—.

No wait, I didn't mean that.

I don't wish death on Arthur.

Please let him come home safe—.

What in the fuck am I thinking?! Stop it Rose! He doesn't want you!

"Rosie? Wot are ya doing?!"

I rush pass her, bee-lining to the sunroom where the stormy full moon shined brightly under the glass.

Taking the chalk and instructions Alina provided in the bag, I start to draw the the sigil as instructed on the paper. I dug the chalk deep into the floor, making sure the color was opaque while chanting the words:

"A spell of safety here I cast, A ward of might to hold me fast."

"Miss wait—!"

"A shield before me and behind, to right and left protection bind."
