I was surprised to see the park incredibly lively at this hour of the evening. While I saw parents with their children heading to the downtown area for the wagons, couples of all ages were entering the ticket gates with a special wristband like mine. I thought that my paper band was to let them know I could drink, not special access to an event.
"They are hosting this night-time festival for valentine's week." Arthur clarified as we waited in entry line. "Lucky for us, we made it on the last and actual day."
"Actual day?" I ask.
"You know, Valentine's day?" He chortled. "You're not that much of a hermit to not know the holiday are you?"
"I know the holiday..." I roll my eyes defensively.
What is really the 14th already? Surely it can't be, it was only Christmas Eve not too long ago.
I hurry to take out my phone, turning on the screen to find the date highlighted before my eyes.
February 14, 20XX; Valentine's Day; Happy Birthday.
"You look shocked." His smile turns into a firm line. "Don't tell me you forgot your own birthday too?"
My screen turns back to black, the phone trembling in my hand from the news.
Where did the days go? Where did I go?
Arthur looked just as concerned as I was.
"You did forget." He murmurs. "I knew you were being too quiet about it."
How did I nearly miss it? I'm not someone to lose track of the days so easily like that. What the fuck?
"I'm... I'm sorry." I hold onto my arms. "There was just so much going on, I guess I just lost track of time."
Then I realized with a quiet gasp,
"We didn't really even celebrate Christmas did we?"
Arthur sighs with a disappointed headshake.
"Nor new years. I'm sorry My dear, you are right. There really was so much going on, the days just flew by. I was so focused on us and this killer on the loose—"
"She fucking ruins everything." I mutter coldly. "Fucking bitch."
"No," He wraps his arms around my waist from behind. "I should've been the one to make it up to you. I should've made an effort. She was a distraction yes, but not anymore. Tonight, it's about us. About you."
I huff a sarcastic laugh. "Kind hard to move on like that when we have two bodyguards on our asses."
"Baby," he leans down to lower his voice. "Let's just enjoy tonight alright? Just ignore the guards like they're not even there and let them do their job. Can we do that?"
Then it was our turn to scan our tickets.
"Okay Love." I reach over to kiss his cheek. "Let's have some fun."
