I had so many questions after that interaction with my new spirit guide. And while her words of encouragement did calm me for a sliver of a moment, it wasn't enough to break the fear completely.

As the moon's light continued to move further away from sight, the next painful attack happened on her command.

Bites on every part of my exposed skin— draining my consciousness away along with my strength and hope. The only thing that kept me from completely falling asleep was the burning infection at my wounds.

My entire body itched and ached, all I could think about was scratching at my sensitive skin. I desperately wanted to dig my nails into my flesh, claw at the swollen bites to relieve it sting.

But I couldn't move...

All I could do was keep repeating my words. Calling for protection and fighting amongst the sleep.

Hecate... I call to... thee...

Watch over...

Watch over... me...

Me... as... as you can...

Can...

When my mind did catch it's self drifting into rest, the frightening face of an evil spirit would startle me awake. It snapped me right back into prayer, hand on the mud to ground me.

Hecate I call to thee,

Watch over me as you can see...

Another thought came to mind as I continued to move my lips.

Those spirits that Dahlia was commanding, they weren't really spirits were they? I mean, at first they were shadows that leeched from the dark, but I actually felt their skin this time. Rough and cold. Dry and strong.
They even had a face too.

I remembered them being bald, pale and sickly. Not like zombies I don't think, but they carried this awful stench that I couldn't even describe it. It was nothing I ever smelled before, and it was worse than than garbage.

As my eyes felt my eyes slowly starting to close again, a sudden face lunged at me with it's teeth ready to bite.

Fangs. I squeezed my eyes to waken them. They had fangs.

Surely they weren't vampires I don't think.

But if they were... what exactly were they?

They looked dead— I mean, I know they were dead. But they were dead dead.

Far more ravenous and evil to be just any vampire.

How was she able to control almost half a dozen vampires that probably don't have anything to do with her—?

"Cher!" Alinas voice snapped me awake again. "I'm losing you! Stay focused!"

Right... focus...

I kept my touch onto the ground, just about to start on the prayer when... I don't want to.

A tired sigh sinks me further into the ground, tempting me to rest against it's cool touch as her voice became harder to hear.

"Cher?! Cher?! Rosalie, you need to hold on!"

"I'm tired..." My eyes began to close. "I just... need a minute."

"Cher no! Do not— open your eyes!"

...

...

...

Finally, there was silence.
