While waiting in the giant crowded line, I tried to keep a conversation going by telling him about random facts about the park. How it was haunted and the such that every fan liked to talk about.
I figured since it was his first time here, he would maybe be interested to know.
Sadly, that was not the case.
He would just answer in a repetitive fashion, "Really... Yeah... Sounds interesting..."
I know he was just anxious, and I know he was trying to fight it; I could see it whenever he cracked a real smile or actually sound interested at a subject, but it still felt like I was 90% of the time being ignored and other 10% actually being here with me.
Honestly, it started to annoy the hell out of me.
Every single time we got on a new ride, he only grew more on edge. Ready to pounce if something went wrong. At some point, even the other bodyguard Ryan had to even remind him that they were there and everything was fine.
I wonder if Ryan knew how this was starting to bother me.
It just about to be 1 in the morning when we finally made it to my favorite side of the park,- NOLA plaza. It was here that I craved for fresh made beignets and a hot bowl of gumbo in a toasted bread bowl.
As we all sat on a table by the faux still river, I tried to savor every bite of my meal. I could've been able to enjoy it a little more, if it wasn't for Arthur watching me so intensely.
This is getting out of hand. I surrender my spoon back into the bowl. He needs to fucking calm down.
"The food isn't poisoned Arthur." I said a bit too snippy.
That made him blink back to reality.
"What?"
"If you're afraid I'm going to drop dead any second, let's just go."
I'm tired of this already. We should've just stayed home.
A concerned look washed over his face.
"What? No, Why? Do you want to leave?"
"No."I crossed my arms. "But if you keep up with this uptight attitude then we will."
His expression became cross, clearly not liking the words that came out of my mouth.
"'Uptight attitude?'" He too crossed his arms defensively. "At least I'm making an effort looking out for anything weird. It seemed like you've forgotten that there's a killer on the loose."
"If there was anything wrong, Julie and Ryan would've spotted it." I argue. "That's why you hired them isn't it?"
"Well- yes— but something can slip through the cracks!"
"Slip through the cracks by three pairs of vampire eyes?" My brows bunch in frustration. "Arthur, just let them do their job. If something is wrong, they will let us know—."
"If it isn't clear enough already, I. Don't. Trust. Them!" He hisses in a low volume. "This is your life we're talking about!"
"And I get that," I said. "but what's the point of having a good time if you're just going to ignore me?"
Something came across his eyes I couldn't detect. But even if it was pain, guilt or regret, his angry tone didn't change.
"I'm not ignoring you, I'm looking out for you."
"By helicoptering me like I'll drop dead any second."
The second those words came out of my mouth, I realize that it was hurt now written on his face.
