The flight was a breeze and the staff was more than over-accommodating.

Blankets, headphones, booze; they offered just about anything they had on this plane to make me feel like I was important. They were even shocked when I kept declining. It was only two hours of a flight, I don't think I needed to get that comfortable. Besides, switching out from my shoes to my fuzzy socks was more than enough comfort for me.

As promised, Arthur joined me for a while to play with me on my console.

It felt strange having him wanting to sit so close to me now. I mean, I know that technically are a couple, but feeling how I'm the one being chased after now felt a bit off.

He's a smart, handsome, wealthy man and I'm... just me. Pretty I suppose, but nothing special. I just feels a bit weird. Nice, but weird.

Once the pilot announced that we were going to land, Arthur kisses my forehead and leaves to return to his seat.

I checked on the map on screen for a flight update, and to my surprise, we were in California. The birth state I never thought I'd return to ever again.

Why on earth did he bring me here? My heart squeezed.

When the plane landed and came to a dragging stop at the gate, Helga was the first to help me taking my bag down. I exited first, followed by Arthur right behind me.

The night air smelled so different than Washington. Musky almost? Maybe... slightly heavier?

What ever it was, it smelled like home.

"The air isn't as clean as Washington isn't it?" He frowns. "You can practically see the smog in the sky. Come, we have a rental car waiting."

I was amazed to see that he knew where to go, almost as if he had been to this airport in the past.

"Arthur?"

"Yes my dear."

"Have you been to California before?"

"Mm... mostly to visit family when they are in the area. A lot of them like to travel and if they are near by, I'll pop in."

Makes sense. I nod to myself.

"Have you ever been here?" He asks.

"I actually lived in California for 22 years." I said. "Up by Santa Barbara, are you familiar with it?"

"Actually yes." He smiles back at me. "My family enjoys renting a hotel room in downtown. It's a small private hotel, but one of the best from what I hear. Very accommodating if you know what I mean."

I guess vampires have their perks if they know where to look.

"If you like, we could take a quick trip to Santa Barbara for a day or two. Rent a hotel there and take a stroll through downtown? What do you think?"

Then I'd be able to see mom's grave. It's been so long...

"I'd really like that." I smile back at him. "If you don't mind, I'd like to see my mom too. She's buried in the San Yisidro area so it's not far from downtown at all."

"I'll make the arrangements then."

He reaches out for my hand, pulling me next to him so we could walk hand in hand to our next destination.

The car he had picked out was black of course- discreet but very luxurious. It was around 11pm when we took off from the airport area and we continued to drive through LA until we reached Anaheim. That's when I felt like the surprise started to click.
