7PM.

In the kitchen, Maya and I were cooking dinner. She scoffed. "Did she now?" She asked. I rolled my eyes while adding seasoned pepper in the pan. The aroma of chicken enchiladas filled the air. Maya opened the kitchen window so it could air out. "She pretended me and Mike weren't there. Gosh, when she look at you, it's like a wicked eye she gives off." I said, referring to Katrina. She immediately snickered. "Like a wicked witch?" She joked. "With the Aurora look." I added jokingly. We bursted into a fit of snickers. "I'm telling you M. You ever see her, watch your back. Don't let her bullshit get to you. Trust me, she's like a porcelain model with the wicked eye." I said. Maya laughed. "Liz, stop! I'll be fine. You're not always going to meet nice lawyers or associates eh? We've met some pretty shady ones." She assured. I scoffed, raising an eyebrow. "Like Hardman?" I joked. "Correct!" She beamed. I laughed as she stirred the enchiladas. "Anything else went sideways?" I asked. Maya motioned me to hand her the salt. "Louis is looking for a new associate. He has me and Rachel, just needs one who breathes fire to win." She mentioned. I smiled sheepishly. "Have you met her? Or him?" I asked. She nodded her head no. "Seems like he is still looking. Isabella made a good impression on him though." She told me. I almost spoke until she bursted into sudden laughter. It made me snicker a little. "What? What happened? Tell me!" I begged amusedly. Maya laughed but calmed down. "I was leaving the bathroom to find her in Louis's office. They seemed to be talking until—She paused to laugh more. "She—She—accidentally stabbed a pencil in his hand! He was like 'Ahhhhh!'" She explained, giggling. I laughed. "What did you do?" I chuckled. Maya lowered the stove heat and moved to two more ingredients. "All I did was grab her and took off saying 'Hey, Louis! Bye Louis!' Good news is he's ok. The pen didn't go too deep." She finished. "Is he wearing stitches?" I asked, smirking. She nodded while pouring ingredients. I laughed while clapping. "Hilarious!" I giggled. "That was awful. The associates were laughing too. Harold joked that maybe his cousin could do that." Maya mentioned. I covered my mouth to giggle. She raise the stove heat to medium. "Let it cook. It'll take a minute. So, what about you? Anything sideways?" She asked. Wondering why Harvey called me reentered my mind. I've been mentally curious about it all day. Kept stopping myself every three seconds to call him now and ask. Perhaps I could—My brain clicked. Wait! "Liz, are you ok?" She asked. I snapped out of my thoughts. "Yeah! Yeah! I'm fine. How's you and Jin?" I asked. Maya leaned against the counter. "We're good. We went to get lunch today. This time we went to Dunkin Donuts. And I'm sorry I didn't get you a donut or latte so how about we go this weekend? Maybe get a donut pack for Izzy and Avery." She told me. I was fighting the energetic urge to run. I quickly nodded. "Mmhm. Great! Where are the girls?" I asked. "Upstairs in Izzy's room. Avery wouldn't leave her side." She joked but in a serious tone. I smiled widely and grabbed my phone off the counter. "Excuse me!" I told her before running up to my room.

I privately closed the door. Trying to control my boosted energy, I dialed Harvey and waited. His deep voice sent chills down my spine. "Hello?" He answered. I smiled shyly. "Hey, it's me." I said. "Good evening Elizabeth. You finally picked up the phone?" He joked. I fidgeted with my shirt while pacing back and forth. "You're a goof. This call is quite different from when you smelled like ashtrays or had whiskey breath." I joked. Harvey scoffed. "I talk sober everyday." He said. I returned the gesture. "Tell that to Mary Jane." I sassed. He laughed. "When did you learn about marijuana music?" He asked. I finally sat down and smirked. "I lived in Cali, remember?" I said. "Anyways, everything ok? How is Avery?" He asked softly. My stomach fluttered over how much he asks about Avery all the time. His smile gets wider any time she comes from school. My cheeks burned hotly. "She's great. Attached to you like always." I told him. Harvey hummed in response. "Thank goodness." He joked. Ok, Liz. Here it goes. I cleared my throat. "Ummm...earlier, I asked you why you called me this morning. We didn't get a chance to talk about that specifically. So, how come you called early?" I carefully asked. A moment of silence spilled. The only thing I could think of is did I mess up. Was I not careful? Just wanna know the reason. What if I pushed too far? What if I ruined our friendship? Does this have to be a little complicated? As I almost made up another worry, everything utterly became a blur.
