No one's POV
After leaving the taxi cab, Donna held onto her handbag and walked in the apartment building. The end of the week is usually exciting, considering it's the start of the weekend. She thought of throwing a birthday dinner for Rachel. Anything to keep her away from feeling quite lonely lately. It felt like everywhere she was, there were people were falling in love with someone. Rachel and Mike, Maya and Jin, Elizabeth and Harvey. She was undoubtedly truly happy for all her friends. Yet Donna wouldn't deny feeling stomach dropped seeing the look in Harvey's eyes whenever he see Elizabeth. One she'd never thought he show again. He felt more than instant attraction, he felt in love. Confused, surprised, happy, a little jealous was her reaction. The moment he met Elizabeth, Donna was getting to see a new side of Harvey. He is caring, nice and protective without putting up a cold front. She even brings out a laugh from him anytime she's in his office. It's also evident when he spends time with Avery. Donna hadn't forgotten how concerned and shock he was when Elizabeth got assaulted by his client's ex-husband. The pure rage in his eyes and balled up fists, wanting to practically kill him. Harvey opened up to Elizabeth in a way she never thought possible. Especially, the way he said he'd prefer calling her Elizabeth instead of 'Liz.' It's not like he was wrong. It does sound more 'lovely' than a nickname. Nothing was wrong when she became great friends with her. Donna would be quite scared to imagine what'll happen if Elizabeth knew, like actually knew, Mike's secret. Would she dump Harvey? Would she leave the firm? Harvey admitted, right to her face, that he love Elizabeth in a way he never loved anybody. Not even Scottie or Zoe. If someday she knows Mike's secret, Donna worries if he'll lose her completely or worse, she'd leave the firm and lose a friend. Walking up to apartment 206, putting her keys in ignition, she opened the door and the world came to a halt.A tall mysterious man stood with a bouquet of yellow dahlias. Her favorite flowers. He smiled sweetly.
Her heart skipped twice a beat, butterflies roamed her stomach, her knees were ready to weaken. She couldn't manage or muster a word. The mysterious visitor said nothing but nod. Donna instantly dropped her handbag and ran straight into his arms. He hugged her as if his life depended on it. If possible, a happy smile crept on her lips. "I thought you weren't gonna be here. You told me you were busy." She whispered into his ear. His hand rubbed her long red hair soothingly. "I finished early. You know cases aren't gonna keep me away. I missed you my beautiful love." He whispered. Donna was fighting the urge not to cry. No one, including her father, expressed so much affection to her. The hidden hole she felt her whole life. That was the feeling she needed, no wanted. Happily and affectionately loved. She felt none until this man arrived in her life. They parted, letting the man playfully spin her around like a princess. Donna chuckled tearfully. He frowned. "What's wrong babe?" He asked, wiping an incoming tear. She sniffled and hugged his chest. His arms wrapped around her protectively. "Wanna sit down?" He whispered in her ear. She nodded. They walked and sat down on the couch. His hand intertwined with hers. He waited patiently so she could calm down. Exhaling a deep breath, she spoke. "James, why? Why must you like someone like me? It's—you know, forget it." She said. James brushed a strand behind her ear and kissed her forehead. "Tell me. It doesn't have to make sense. You can tell me anything that's on your mind." He encouraged. An affectionate affirmation was all Donna needed in order to vent. Her eyes diverted to the yellow dahlias. Almost thought insecurely that she doesn't get flowers, chocolates or even sappy cards from any admirer. "Why me? There are plenty of beautiful, successful women out there. None of them are me, I—She paused fighting a lump in her throat. James wrapped an arm around her shoulder and rubbed her back comfortingly. She had no choice but to let herself weep quietly. "You're right, I could've had any other woman in the world. The problem is none of them are you. And don't ever say you're not beautiful because you are. You are kind, funny, so goddamn witty, empathetic and tough. All of the things that make me love you more. You just don't know any day I'm in Cali, I think of nothing but being here with you. Wanting to feel you, run away to you, see a bright shade of red...." He trailed off caressing her red strand. Donna's cheeks turned into the color of her hair. "Anywhere. I love that we're a hidden secret because at the end of the day, all I want is you." He finished. Donna wiped her eyes and smiled warmly. "James, you are the sappiest man I know." She joked. They broke into a fit of chuckling. "Oh god, don't tell my sisters." He chuckled before kissing her passionately. She kissed back and wrapped her arms around his neck. His lips began pecking her neck. Her eyes closed, sighing happily toward the affectionate lovemaking fulfilling her body. James became the only exception when Donna could feel emotional, cared for, or even loved with.
