Hi. This is Akosiibarra.
After two years since I started the PLAY Duology, it's finally done. I would like to thank you for reading PLAY THE QUEEN and PLAY THE KING, and for making it this far. It's quite a feat to read through 125 chapters and 400,000+ words. For your efforts, you deserver a medal and a certificate of appreciation.
PLAY was supposed to be a light story. Unfortunately, my definition of "light" may not be the same as yours. Haha! Sorry, I can't help myself sometimes whenever my mind wants to complicate stuff. But it has worked out well in the end, I guess? Adding some heavy and dark scenes somewhat benefited the story.
I have enjoyed writing this duology despite not being in the genre that I'm known for. But I'm certain you have observed my trademark elements in this series or what makes a story an Akosibarra story—the mind-blowing twists, big brain moves and countermoves, powerful student council, watchful campus journalism, among other things. This is also one of the rare occasions where I have broken my streak as a—how do I put this?—ship sinker. I hope that I have done justice to the romance side of the story.
Looking back, I wish that I could have explored more of the side characters, introduced more conflicts that aren't related to the Alaric plot, or indulged ourselves in the student council election arc. I wanted to finish this story as soon as possible because if I did not, it might take a long while for me to finish it. But don't worry. I might add more scenes and explore more areas once I start reviewing it for publication.
I know the lingering question that you have in mind. It's the same question that I have read many times in the comment section. Will there be an Act Three? To be honest, I'm not that enthusiastic about it since I believe I have wrapped up everything in PTK nicely. Priam and Fabienne are a couple now, Castiel has gotten the justice that he and Cassidy deserve, Reynard is still in pursuit of the truth, Alaric has fallen from grace, Old Man Eliseo is on the verge of falling, too. I will have to create a new conflict to make Act Three possible.
All I can say is that I'm not outright dismissing that possibility.
Now, let's talk about published versions! For those who are interested, PLAY THE QUEEN will be published sometime this year—most likely in September during the Manila International Book Fair or MIBF. It will include an exclusive Priam chapter and a feature article about Fabienne the First Lady. Plus, there will be a number of inclusions! Now the question is whether it will receive a premium treatment or not. As of press time, I have not decided yet.
As for PLAY THE KING, as much as we want to publish it at the same time as PTQ, this book is quite loooooong, it might take some time for me/us to polish it. If we're lucky, we might see the book by the end of the year. And if we're luckier, we might even get a book box!
Some of you have already expressed intention in buying the book versions. I appreciate your enthusiasm, and I hope we can meet your expectations (or even surpass) once they are available.
That's all I've got for you today. Once again, thank you for joining me and everyone in this rollercoaster ride! It's time to close this book.
For now.
Sincerely,
RHEIN a.k.a. Akosiibarra
