They had just arrived at the prison as Sumayyah started to get a stomachache. She has never really thought that one day, her family would be locked up here for one crime or the order.
They gave in their possible information and that of the person they came to see. They were directed to a parloir, an open space, and can also be referred to as a prison visiting room itself. They were asked to sit and wait for the accused.
Her father precisely.
She sat down feeling anxious but this time, Faruq fought the urge that kept him away from touching her as he softly and gently placed his hand on the back of her palm, which lay on her lap.
She quickly turned to him in surprised, that he was holding her hand. When she tried to pull away quietly, he squeezed her hands gently causing her to look at him again. ‘What is going on? Why is he holding me?’ He gave her a reassuring smile that helped her nervousness.
Not long, the door opens, interrupting their little caresses, and her father walks in with a security guard. They both stood up immediately looking at him with pity eyes while he lowered his head. “30 minutes” the security guard noted before walking out.
The moment she saw her father, the urge to run into his arm hit her like old time. He looked different from how she presumed him to be since the last two years she saw him. He got thinner, darker and full beards which mum wouldn't normally let him keep. His grey hair that used to be a little amount has now almost covered his whole hair. He looked like he was from the street, especially in this orange prison attire.
Just how do they treat them?
Faruq noticed that she had been staring at him since her father walked in, so he nudged her out of her thoughts. She then gestured to her father to take a seat while they sat facing him. “Ba…” her words stuck in her throat.
Shit, why now of all times.
“I know you must be disappointed by seeing how I have turned to and for not telling you the truth earlier.” He said.
She shook her head. “I was, but I am not anymore“ she said, with a wobbling voice. “What happened? How did you end up in a place like this?” She asked.
He let out a sigh, sitting comfortably as he started. “I believe by now everyone calls you the daughter of a fraudster. Well, I was blinded by wealth that I forgot what it was to have a truly beloved family like you. I wanted to be wealthy and some day take over the company as the second in command of the chairman, Khalil's father. But I realised that won't be the case. So when he said he was looking for a wife for his son, I offered you without even considering your feelings and the person to whom you love” He said, glancing at Faruq.
“I got promoted and my income increased. But I was overcome with greed, I wanted more and the Asraf Group was one of the best in the world. That moment, I didn't care if the company would crumble because I never thought it would. As the director of marketing, I made huge collaborations with men from various companies without the company's knowledge. I started to work with David.”
“Who is He?”
“I've never seen him physically but he was a good businessman, things were going soft until we started going low on insurance and the marketers were to blame. I Brought the suggestion of taking loans and making more Collaboration with other companies without Khalil's Knowledge but that made it worse. I was the prime suspect, but Khalil respected me as his wife's father, but when your relationship broke, I was caught by the companies genius.”
“Who was that?” Faruq Asked.
“Arif. I got a ton of lawyers, but they kept turning down my case for two good years and if I don't go for trial this time, I would rot here.” He said, looking down his palms as he gripped them into a tight fist. “However. I am not in any position to ask for your help, Sumayyah.”
